No, All McDonald's hamburgers are made of beef, nothing else just 100 percent beef, prepared from whole cuts of forequarter and flank (similar to the mince you'd buy in the supermarket). All that's added is a pinch of salt and pepper after cooking. (July 2008)

This cochineal in your milkshakes... is it crushed beetles? One of your staff told me it was crushed beetles and beetles blood, which doesnt quite sound as pleasant as "natural animal colouring"

Cochineal is a colour derived from animal sources but McDonald's no longer uses this colouring in their Strawberry Milkshakes, therefore the Strawberry Milkshakes are now suitable for vegetarians.

Better beetles than cats, I suppose.

I only ever have gerkins at when I'm at mcdonalds. They are ok but i don't know anything about them. Can you tell me more. Is gerkin a meat and if so, which animal does it come from?

McDonald's uses Dill Pickles in their burgers. These are basically pickled cucumbers and they are a vegetable. The ingredients are as follows: Cucumbers, Water, Salt, Vinegar, Dill Pickle Blends (contains E414 Gum Arabic, Extractives of Dill and other spices, Extractives of Turmeric), E509 Calcium Chloride, E202 Potassium Sorbate, E211 Sodium Benzoate.
