I quite enjoyed the Narrative voice of the 0 Issue, and I like the concept of The Crossed (minus the "God, eh? What a Wanker!" symbolism of the Cross). It has potential for some great riffs on zombie apocalypse tropes.
Reading issue one however, was one of the most unpleasent experiences I've had recently, all of the worst excesses of Ennis' most juvenile books. I love me some bleak nihilist fiction, but I am so fucking sick of Ennis' empty, pointless trash.
Punisher Max shows that Ennis is capable of amazing comics, that deal with horrible things in wonderfully human ways. He just doesn't want to.
Garth Ennis' "Crossed" tastes of piss and stiff-with-dried-semen bed-sheets.
Really like Jacen Burrows, it's a shame he's drawing graphic rape scenes in Garth Ennis comics. |
