So, the day of wind and ghosts is nearly upon us and some of us will be playing roles in this macabre drunkfest. Now, I've never really dressed up in costume before mainly due to laziness, but this year I thought I'd give it a go. I was recently listening to the Mindless Ones drone on about muffins when one of their number, Tymbus, made a very good point: at Comicon, which is what the podcasr was about, he said American kids do great cosplay purely because instead of a 20 stone fatbeard going, "I want to be He-Man", they'll find a character they actually look like and tailor themselves from there. Skill!

In the spirit of that I give you some faintly embarassing photos for you to look and laugh at, and to get an idea of my general appearence. I need ideas.

The last one's just for you.

Well, if you've already got the pink hat, then obviously your new suit name is the starting point.

Im thinking Gambit. I dont know why... I just am.

Make yourself a big foam outfit of a hot dog with just your arms and legs sticking out in stockings, put on some pink cowboy boots and the pink hat, and voilà! It's a cowgirl hotdog!
My spouse gains no end of amusement from any large novelty foam costumes.

This...

about killed her.

Gambit? Odd choice. That said in the past two months I've been told I look like Jay Kay, Bob Dylan and Steve Buscemi...

Someone's suggested, offline, Harry Potter and it's starting not to sound like such a bad idea.

C'mon Barbelith!

Here's some ideas:

- Nathan Barley;
- a cancer;
- a damning inditement of everything wrong with today's youth.

Keggers, Fly and Papers get the game... I am getting a haircut this week and I do want to get a new suit. I could claim my Halloween costume purchases as 'job interview stuff'. Subterfuge always makes things better.

I see, you're specifically leaving me out of those who "get it", just because you don't like my cowgirl hot dog idea. Well, I think that you're the one who doesn't "get it". That is a great fucking idea. I mean, it's got everything, novelty foam, great outfits (little fringed skirt, broom-horse, spurs), cowgirl theme, and for you, cross-dressing, a Halloween standby.

You're blind. Ta hell witcha.

Are you telling me that Fly and Papers get the game or are you saying that all three of us get the game? Im so confused!

Triplets
21:52 / 04.10.08
Yes, Fly and Papers are the only ones who get the game. David Tennant or a tumour, these are the types of costumes I'm looking for.

Cross-dressing does intrigue and who doesn't, couldn't love a horsie broom?

ONLY NICE THINGS
22:25 / 04.10.08
I can't find a picture, and it wouldn't be much of a costume, since it involves casual dress and nobody would get it, but the upbeat one from Geeksville?

New suggestions: Scooby-Doo (for a friends' Scooby-Gang), the Mad Hatter (dismissed as not being sexy enough) and Link of Legend of Zelda fame.

I don't get your reference either, Hauser.

My own incredibly obscure comigeek ideas: The Unknown Superboy of 4475 AD, or Peter Parker (casual attire, shirt unbuttoned with Spider-man top visible underneath, cardboard "Spidey-sense bolts" optional but awesome).

You mentioned He-Man. With this outfit, you would have the same hair and also show a lot of skin. Plus, you could throw down some mean kung fu moves at the party to stay in character.

This year it's going to be Eli Cash of Royal Tenenbaums fame. Facepaint and all.

Wild....cat. Pow.

Am I crazy for wanting to go as Galactus? It's either that or Doctor Horrible, though both break my own personal Halloween rule of no geeky costumes

The Unknown Superboy of 4475 AD

YES.

There is nothing geeky about dressing up as Galactus. Shaving your head, wearing only silver bodypaint and shorts, that could be geeky.

My friend who looks very much like Jesus did the Leeloo outfit one year. Very disturbing.

Plush chaps.

If you can get plush chaps + pink cowboy hat + silver boots, you will own Halloween. As a muppet cowboy.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy

My library branch is themed as hippies for Halloween, but I've decided to break the mold, go ten years later, and be a punk. Bit shit as costumes go, but I'm shaving my head into a mohawk, dying it, and trying to find something bad ass to wear, T-shirt-wise. I used to have an old Union Jack shirt but seems to have by the wayside.

Are you allowed to take compressed-air cattle-slaughtering devices to parties in your part of the world? Did you just happen to have one lying around? I am impressed yet slightly unnerved...

It's not real, I made it. The tank is a piece of aluminum duct piping with a plastic bowl (sprayed silver) as a cap, with a valve and hose I found in a rummage bin at a hardware store. The gun is a pneumatic ratchet I saw completely by chance in the window of a pawn shop. Put them all together in the right combination and you have a pretty convincing captive bolt pistol. Utterly harmless, but if I even made the motion to put it near someone's forehead they flinched and would turn away.
