The hubby and I were talking about buying some Storax resin to burn in honor of Hermes Khthonios. It seems to be fairly rare and I can't find it at the incense stores that I trust to give a good, pure product. So I did more poking around and it seems that Storax is derived from the Sweetgum (Liquidambar). Does anyone know if the bark of the American Sweetgum would work? It is a part of the Liquidambar family and the article says that it used to make 'liquid amber' (a resin used in perfumes).
That particular tree grows in my parents yard and is readily available so it would be ideal... if it's a suitable substitute.
Answered my own question with a bit more research. Yes, you can use American Sweetgum as Storax... it's called 'American Storax'. Hoorah! |
