The Look

So, I'm reading old Bat-stuff and I had a realization: Bruce Wayne needs to lounge in a smoking jacket, all laid back and yeah, I'm the Bat, but I'm just chillin'. Otherwise, he isnt' Bruce Wayne.

The Joker looks his best when he's upset or pissed off. Not when he's hysterically happy.

The new sort-a-realistic look of recent-passed Betty and Veronica is an no.

Nick Fury should never be allowed to shave properly.

And, though practically never portrayed in this way, Johnny Storm should be totally absurdly bishie with wavy blond hair almost falling over his eyes. No big cheekbones and massive muscles.

Sometimes the look is particular to an artist or an era and it just clicks with you. Sometimes it's unseen, but you intuit it in your own special fannish way, because really, you know how the character should look more than the professionals working on the books. It can be the original look, it can be the first you saw, or maybe it's just that cool.

So what are some of yours?

Green Arrow's curly beard. The hipster goatee doesn't work, and clean-shaven he might as well be Aquaman. It's gotta be a Van Dyke with a curl to it.
