MUGISON
with Defibrillators and Decorum DJs
(Sat 12th / 8pm / £5 adv, £6 door)
Icelandic wunderkind Mugison was last seen at the Cube at a giddying sell out show in 2005. Since then he’s traded his laptop in for a bass player and a drummer of flesh and blood, cranked the amp and gone on a mission.
Arriving on these shores in tow of a new LP that took these past three years to complete (and has already become Iceland’s best selling album of all time), Mugison is back and he’s unstoppable. Here is a man who often veers between deeply moving bizzaro balladry and heavy duty rock ‘n roll in the same song. Here is a man who spent the good part of 3 years howling in his garage until the songs felt right, felt real and beyond all, felt good. Here is a man who promises to give it all he’s got, to turn his inside out and let us hear what it will sound like. So come and join the Mugiboogie.
Plus, in their début show:
Defibrillators take either total or no influence from Heldon, Sun Ra, Henry Cow & Charles Hayward. A free-form melodic dialogue probably closer to the dream collaboration of Fripp & Corsano, featuring a former member of Hunting Lodge and a current member of Geisha.
Probably not too keen on being compared to Corsano lest people get VERY disappointed, but if there are any Barbelithers who live in Left Britain then come along and we'll do our best not to suck ass. Even if we do here's hoping Mugison will be great innit. |
