From what I read the last few years, he was doing fine in his very old age. Being busy meditating, going for a walk in those nice swiss hills, taking part in conventions.
Usually, I don´t feel sad when a famous person dies. I think, he handled his surprising discovery quite well and in the end, the world was a bit better for it.
