Emboldened by the Bleach thread I’m here to talk about The NGE Manga. It’s written by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto who has also worked for GAiNAX on a lot of their shows, but this is his only full length Manga, which is unfinished at this point, the second last part being released this November.
And it’s fucking amazing.
I started buying the books and I was jonesing for more NGE and there was no sign of You are (not) Alone.
I don’t want to go into any spoilers here I’ll wait for later posts if people want to talk about it.
It’s so, so good. Not a literal adaptation even from the first book, there are small changes but by book 3 Sadamoto is telling his own version of the story.
Asuka gets an Angel kill on her own, some of the Angels don’t appear or are killed off panel but the biggest change is the characters themselves. They all start off as the cold shells they are in the anime but start to come out of themselves (Asuka starts as an even bigger bitch) becoming more human, even more so that the show, making the horrors to come even more heart breaking, Jesus, it even explains Pen Pen’s origin! A lot of the EVA battles are much shorter so the author can get back to the character work and it’s all the better for it.
Right I’ve said enough unless someone wants to talk about it but if you’re an NEG fan it’s a must have.
