Hiccups - a right annoyance, what can we do?...

A start?

Like so

I am continually plagued by the hiccup, OK mostky when drunk, but also other times. What can I/We do, to overcome this terrible menance to our life? Well other than the dangerous breathing technique, I look back to the good old fashioned shock.

As long as it's scary, or shocking, it might just work...
...to help me and others resume normal breathing functions

You can hold your breath while pressing on an acupressure point in the hollow right behind your earlobes for a bit. It works for the majority of the people I show it to.

and now I have to get the hiccups just to test that out...

Just hold your breath. For a long time. Loooooong. Not too long, though.

I have found that as soon as you get a hiccup if you move something in from directly in front of you, a glass preferably or even make the gesture of moving something from straight in front of you to the side.

I know it sounds quite implausible and am willing to admit that I was told it while heavily under the influence and therefore perhaps very susceptible to suggestion in a way that has convinced my body that this is fact. It certainly seeemed a great idea at the time.

It does have to be as soon as you get the first hiccup - preferably even the first hic- otherwise it doesn't work at all, but since I was told this a couple of years ago hiccups have been effectively banished.

Blow into a brown paper bag, breath in and blow again. Once the bag is full pop it so that it makes a loud bang and really scares you. It worked for me every time. That is, the one time I had hiccups....

BANG!

Sheesh, that was loud!
