Scud: the Disposable Assassin

In the future, assassins will be available from vending machines. You'll buy these robots, give them a target and upon assassination these robots will self destruct. This is the story of one dispossable assassin that discovers his true nature, puts his target in the hospital and takes free lance assassination work to pay for his target's life support. Along the way he gains a best friend, a girl friend & fights Ben Franklin, master of sex and voo doo.

I think I was 16 when I first encountered Scud. It was only on issue 6 and I completely got into it. Cool robots, crazy mutants, cyborg gangsters & aliens along with over the top comedy & violence it was everything a misfit boy my age would be into. And yet there was always a bit more there too, the book could be down right heart wrenching and sad. The most heart breaking and dark would be the end issue 20, that left a huge cliffhanger with a promise to wrap up the series. Worse yet is that issue 21 never came. The creator, Rob Schrab, had moved out to Hollywood and became too busy to finish the book.

Ten years later Rob starts to hear from several fans that they want to see the ending, Image comics is willing to publish it, he gets the idea that ending will make him feel good as well, so he sits down and starts to draw. It's coming out now! Something I've waited 10 years for is actually being made (I thought it never would see the light of day) and I couldn't be happier.

Did anyone else pick this up back in the day? Are you reading it now? What do you think? Grown up Drywall, that's just cool! Schrab's art is just as sharp as it ever was and the humor is still there as well as is the hyper violence. Seriously, I'm not the only one on Barbelith that is completely crazy about Scud am I?
