Relevant Previous Threads: [Jeff Smith's BONE] + [SHAZAM!]
Something about Jeff Smith's comics makes me want to use capital letters and exclamation points.
Coming out, apparently, in late February of 2008 (Yay! Under a month!) is the first issue of Jeff Smith's new project, RASL -- the story of a dimension-hopping art-thief who walks a wild line between hedonistic debauchery crossing dimensions one way and "zen abstinence" going the other. Apparently we can expect a weird mystery on the horizon for Rasl as he accidentally alters time and space.
[Newsarama Interview]
Smith has some preview pages up on his Boneville blog (Scroll down a bit to find them, something's up that won't let me link directly to a given entry) that are intriguing -- Rasl looks oddly Cro-Magnon, for some reason.
Apparently, Smith wanted to do the series as an oversized comic but was dissuaded due to market concerns, though he might still oversize the eventual collection -- although for some reason, Smith's work seems like it'd be spiff in the little manga digest size.
The shift from Fantasy to Super-Hero to Sci-Fi (as genres) excites me a little, particularly as it sounds like RASL will probably be a little more "adult" in its situations than his previous popular work. |
