Video Games for the Discerning Non-Participant

I love video games, especially PS2. The problem being, I'm quite crap at them. So this is a thread (mods please delete if there's one like this already) for those of us who are regularly exposed to them and would like to share information about the games that are enjoyable to watch, as opposed to just play.

If your partner, child or housemate is hogging the telly all the time playing the latest game - don't get mad, get involved. Sit there on the sofa and become a skilled backseat driver - if you get the right game, it's better than most of the stuff on TV anyway. And when Christmas or birthdays come around, you'll be able to buy them a game you can both enjoy rather than, for instance, one that will bore the living pants off you.

Here's a selection of games that I've found to be thoroughly enjoyable even when I don't have a control in my hand (which is most of the time, unless I'm drunk and it's SoulCalibur III night).

- The Sims 2
My God, this is addictive. It's like having semi-intelligent fish in a tank, puking and flirting and buying ever-more rococo consumer durables. It's also a (relatively) non-violent, easy to play work of sheer fucking art that will eat your life. In a good way. No,wait, in a bad way.

- God of War I and II
These are both fight/strategy type games (sorry not sure about the terminology). They look beeyootiful and contain enough puzzles and challenges to mean that you (backseat driver) can actually be helpful to the player when it comes to opening up new rooms, getting past enemies, solving problems etc. The fights are great to watch with lovely monsters and plenty of blood and the scenarios gorgeous even considered as simply moving wallpaper.

- Hitman I, II and III
See above - except it's a little grittier and there is YET MORE BLOOD (unless you're trying to get Silent Assassin status, in which case there's a lot of tense sneaking around, which is - weirdly - almost as fun).

- Okami
Like a beautiful morphine dream. Compelling as a viewer and a player.

- Seven Sins
Filthy Sims, essentially. Shag, fight and steal your way to the top. This is almost certainly unobtainable these days and I'm not entirely sure how it ever got made in the first place.

Any more for any more?

I love watching the Street Fighter games - I think it's something to do with the fact that the space in which the action happens is quite limited. Unlike (for example) the DOA games, you know that no-one's going to push their opponent off the roof. That (pushing off roofs) always looks like getting out of a corner to this particular discerning non-participant, and watching someone scrap their way out of a corner is more fun. Also, the taunts are quite funny.

I'm the complete opposite when I'm watching games - I don't want to be solving the puzzles, I want them to be all action all the time so I can do the cheering on! This means I like watching almost any games that involve driving or fighting. The GTA series is also a favourite of mine, for obvious reasons.
