Saturday 2nd Feb, “Shore Leave” at the George Tavern, 373 Commercial Road, London, E1 0LA. 7pm-Late £5, or £3 dressed to kill.
The Nights are long and the cold north wind is blowing. The year is young and yesterday’s warm embrace, all silk stockings and cherry red lips, is but another transient moment left adrift in our sorry wake. But pull up your collars boys, for tonight we have one night ashore in London town, and what happens in ashore, stays ashore…
SHORE LEAVE is decadent and glamourous night for love-sick sailor boys and girls, world weary sea-pilots, stowaways, jazz heads, immigrants and lovers. All under the roof of the George Tavern on Commercial Road, tales of the sea and strange foreign ports will be told, with Rockabilly, Jazz, fucked up Sea Shanty’s and chanson from far flung ports.
-Dancing records from the Shore Leave DJ’s, Duncan DeMorgan (Born Bad, The Woodsmen) and Zachary McKraken (The Plank, The Woodsmen).
-Live Circus-Dirge and Noir-Polkas from The Owlls
-Miss Cookie ‘The Cutter’ bringing the east London barrelhouse blues on the ol’ Joanna.
-Tattoo Bar from Jonny DeMonique
-The Shore Leave Postcard Co. with Miss Amy on hand with the Hasselblad and last months lovers and drinkers immortalised in vintage postcards projected on the walls.
-also, perambulating accordion-playing sea-dogs, free Grog on entry, and other dystractions.
Dressing cool as fuck very much encouraged, thus: Undead U-boat Captains, South Pacific Sailor Boys, Rum-Swilling Navy Gunners, Tattooed Powder Monkeys, Love Sick Cabin Boys, Port Whores, Whalers, Sailors and Gaolers all pay £3, and all those who can’t be fucked to make an effort pay £5.
SHORE LEAVE: When you’ve only got a few hours to party, fuck shit up. |
