Damages

Peach Pie

This is shaping up to be one of the TV highlights of this year: Close plays a razor sharp corporate lawyer fighting a former CEO billionaire (Ted Danson) accused of insider trading to the detriment of thousands of his former employees. The private action follows a govermnet trial.

The moral lines are blurred early on, as Close rejects a 100m settlement from Danson at the start of the show. Meanwhile a law graduate headhunted by Close is warned by a rival firm that she will be endangered if she takes up the post. Despite realising early on that she has been manipulated into taking the job, the graduate (Rose Byrne) decides to play along.

After two episodes, it's incredibly difficult to determine exactly who is playing who. On early viewing the show appears to belong in the same league as Six Feet Under, albeit in a very different ay.

Really? You must be getting something out of it that I'm not.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's enjoyable enough, and I should own up to only having seen the one show, but it went straight into the brain-category marked 'light entertainment'.

Hmmm... dunno. The plot line really had me hooked. Perhaps the opening shot of Byrne running through the streets covered in blood seemed too obvious to some viewers.

Our Lady Has Left the Building

I downloaded all the episodes but am at about episode seven and have been for several months and may well never bother to watch the rest of it. I just find it incredibly difficult to care about any of the characters, I find Glenn Close's character ridiculous (and the ill-advised attempts to humanise her in the first few episodes were wisely dropped) and, in that situation, it's a twelve hour episode of 'Law and Order' without Michael Imperioli, or that fella in the DA's office who prosecutes bad men and who I want to call Daddy.

Peach Pie

My early prediction comparing this show with 6fu was way wide of the mark. The character arc changes seemed to be binary - the characters are either for Ellen or not. So it's pretty limited to that end.

Still enjoying it... there are some fun storylines, but the flashbacks seem to be pretty content thin. There's no point in 'whodunnit' predictions as Damages is not burdened with realism.

Can't believe there's nary a response to that show. I liked it a lot, and especially that Ray Fisk character was awesome.

Can't wait for season 2.

ONLY NICE THINGS

OK, this could be interesting. Why can you not believe that there are so few responses? What was it about the show that led you to believe that there would be many responses, specifically?

Well, I did think that the anachronistic setup was something that would appeal to the Lost crowd. Also, the abundance of red herrings was quite enjoyable, made for enough suspense to keep watching.
