Comic Book Artists

Hello there, my boyfriend is currently working on different comic book projects. He writes the stories but doesn't know anybody who illustrates and draws. Do any of you know how and where to find good artists who are willing to take a chance with an unknown writer?

I'm sure there's a thread somewhere where people listed some forums where you might find possible artists. At the moment, however, all I can find is this thread.

IIRC there's always been vastly more people that think they can write comics than people that can definitely draw them, so inevitably the artist can refuse a lot of projects before finding something they want to work on. But regardless, best of luck.

Ah, maybe this or this thread might help.

It's hard, especially when you're starting out. I honestly thought getting a few published books out there would help, but it doesn't get a lot easier even when you've scrambled a couple of rungs up the ladder.

Most of the advice given in the other threads is good advice; the only thing I'd add is that webcomics are a great way of showing your writing chops with limited artistic resources. Ryan North's Dinosaur Comics, for example, is a stellar example of brilliant comedy writing that works with restricted art.

Thank you for the replies. I was thinking that it might not be such a bad idea to put a flyer on the wall of our local comic book store. Something like "Writer looking for comic book artist/illustrator please contact ..blabla".

I guess it's pretty hard to get published, especially if you're "new".
