I think we could just have fun with this, but let's start with a definition:
Horoscope (Greek: hora + skopein) View of the hour. Original meaning was identical to the ascendant, or rising degree. Largely avoided by professional astrologers, the term has become synonymous with the entire astrological chart, especially the natal chart. Also applied to the Sun-sign predictions, found in magazines and newspapers. A plotting of the geocentric positions of the planetary bodies in relation to earth, as they move through the ecliptic in their annual journey around the sun. Calculated in relation to the place and time of a birth; normally, planets are placed within houses of the chart according to the approximation afforded by a table of houses. This is referring to western astrology but basically in this thread we will deal with natal charts or forecasts, rather than the dailies. We could discuss a cross-reference with other systems, such as the Chinese Zodiac of twelve year cycles, and the Tzolkin Calendar of the Mayans.
Are there any other horoscopes anyone knows about? There must be more.
Perhaps we could look at the influence, if any, of these various zodiacs and astrological associations. I tend to think there is something to the astrology. I am a little more skeptical of the zodiac references, and the attributes given to them. Why are these stereotypes about the various sun signs, Chinese zodiac, or Day Lords, accepted? How did anyone come up with these attributes?
Also, what is your sign and do you know anything about it? If you do, do you recognize yourself in your sun sign, or Chinese Zodiac? IN western astrology do you consider your entire chart or just your sun sign?
Does it make sense to other people that because they are the same person, the various horoscopes should relate to, or reflect one another in some manner?
I'll, start with a bit of what I know about my horoscopes:
Western: Sun in Aries, Moon in Libra, Leo Rising. I also have a lot of Taurus in my chart, and (ooooh, big shocker) oppositions.
Chinese: Metal "Temple" Dog, (I am not certain what "temple dog" is, but I have heard it described this way before and it makes a whole lot of sense to me. Maybe it just sounds cool.)
Mayan: Day Lord - Manik or Deer, with a Galactic Tone of 4
I have to be honest, I don't really see a lot of connections between these things. Perhaps, the Deer and the Ram are related in nature? Maybe a Tone of 4 creates balances, but also sets up natural opposition.
Hmm, I am not certain how to tackle this topic. Any suggestions? |
