intelligence, wit, skepticism, knowledge, and rationality
funny, i associate all those qualities with jon ronson's work. i've not seen that doc since it was broadcast, but i don't remember it being as bad as all that. he's reasonably well-versed in conspiracy culture and parapolitics, and the book that the doc was based on '(them' i believe) i remember as being a very capable bit of journalism. in it he describes getting as lose as you can to a bilderberg meeting, and his 'infiltration' of bohemian grove was quite a big deal in the conspiracy subcult. the follow-up 'the men who stare at goats' is good too, making a convincing narrative linking the us military's post-vietnam nervous breakdown, and demonstrating through several strange mutations and initiatives how it wound up reasserting its sense of control in abu ghraib.
i think often he's not sceptical enough, stopping before he steps too far out of the comfortable realms of acceptable discourse in the british media, where his interests mark him out as something of a fringe figure, but on the whole i think he's wise about these things more often than he is wrong.
