Please help me with hen party ideas!

I was wondering if any one had any cool ideas for a hen party on a budget? I noticed a couple of you guys recently married (congrats by the way!) and I'd really appreciate it if anyone could share the benefit of their experience. I've been looking online and it seems great if you want to go kayaking or get drunk in a limo, but the friend in question is quite 'girly' (for want of a much better word) and I think she wants something a bit different and more personal (booze will definitely be a part of the proceedings somewhere though).

How about a scavenger hunt/pub crawl? In costumes if she's up for the wacky?

Ooh that sounds fun! I've never done a scavenger hunt before, I feel a bit bereft now.

It's easy, just list a load of things that are relatively easy to get but involve asking people for help (or blagging or thieving of course) and plot routes converging on the same finishing post, set a time limit for when you want to get there and give a prize to the winning team. Don't forget the disposable cameras...

Here's a kids one, maybe the Diva Girl website might be more helpful and for the proper hunt you should get in the mood by watching the 1979 comedy.

My suggestions for objects include a kiss from a policeman, a picture from the highest possible height and an empty bottle of gin. And a monkey. And a recorded message from an ex of the bride. And a toupee... actually I should stop now.

I'm afraid I'm no help, I just went to the bar and did a little dancing with my girls. I heard from one girl whose scavenger hunt involved obtaining a strange man's underwear. If you want to go there.

Excellent suggestions, thanks Quantum! And (drunken) dancing will probably be featured, but I don't think any of us will have the guts to obtain a strange mans underwear, not without a harmful amount of tequila anyway!

The empty gin bottle will be very easy, the monkey not so much. I'm up for trying though.

a friend of mine organised all her sister's friends to turn up to the sister's hen's night dressed as various versions of her across the years. apparently it was hilarious.

May I recommend the Indiebride forums? Lots and lots of ideas there.

I can recommend starting off with a couple of hours in a turkish bath or similar. It's something a bit different but cheap (as long as you don't have treatments) and also fits the "girly" bill. It's very sociable and makes you feel wonderful before you get stuck in to the debauchery.

Yes spa type things are always lovely especially for girly girls. For my friends hen night we went to Edinburgh and stayed in a fancy hotel with a spa. Depending on cash you could travel on a train somewhere, even go first class.

If you're in London the Sub-Zero ice-bar in Picadilly is a good experience. Whole place is made out of ice (protective capes and gloves provided). Wicked ice-sculptures and glasses made out of ice with tasty vodka cocktails. A session lasts 45 minutes so it's quite entertaining as a starting point.

Thanks everyone that was really helpful and I've got some great ideas to put forward now. It's a shame we're not near London as the Ice bar idea sounds great. I'm definitely going to push for the spa/turkish bath thing. The Indiebride link was really useful too. Yay to you all!

Have fun henning it up! Is this for chicken-head or someone else?

On a wider note I have to say I've never heard of the ice-bar concept before; it sounds fascinating, in a novelty kind of way anyway.

Though, it kind of shows how union-orientated I am when my first thought about the place was, "do the barstaff all get regular warm-up breaks and/or shift rotations? Do they?"

No it's not for chicken-head, it's for another friend. You've just made me wonder exactly how one would dress up to go to an ice-bar. Anything elegant would be covered by scarves, hats and coats surely?

Good question; I don't suppose a fur-kini would be out of bounds. Just don't sit down, it'd be the eviler twin of getting stuck to a vinyl couch on a hot day...

I suppose with the 45 minute time-limit you just wear your normal clobber under the coats and scarves and secretly pretend you're at an ice-planet themed Doctor Who bar. I truly wish there's one ice-bar out there that gives out complimentary ushanka hats.

However you'd do it, dressing up for an ice-bar would be a mammoth tusk...

I'll get me (fur) coat
