Theres The George at London Bridge of course. A favourite for barb meets and birthdays etc. Not slap-bam central but not too hard to get back from to anywhere. Get there early and its possible to get a lot of room. Loads of space outside with those palm tree heaters as well.

Whats the Princess Louise like these days? That upstairs room would be fine if it was open.

Theres maybe the Prince of Wales or the White Heart, both on Drury Lane. More space than the plough but, as most places on a friday evening, liable to be packed with people coming from work.

The Plough really is quite small and, unless we can spread upstairs, not that great for large groups of people.

I'd suggest the George in London Bridge with an early drinking party to stake out either of the two rooms with the big tables.

Just tell me where I'm gonna be and how to get there. I'll PM Seth or someone my cell number when I get a phone that will work over there.

Or we can try and find out if the upstairs room at the Plough, or the Louise, is open that evening, and if we can reserve it for weirdos for Christmas(then we can get loads of funny shaped balloons). Maybe a couple of quid each though. I kind of think that if it's going to be a big gathering its worth trying to get somewhere decent where people can mingle around and have a good time and not be trapped up in a small squashed up space all night. I'll give the Plough and some other places a ring tommorow.

Don't worry Zippy. The whole day and night will feel like you are being carried around by angels on a bed of unicorn fur i promise.

Wo! Hope we get some good pics then.

If enough people want to reserve some space, I'll be happy to contribute. But if that makes anyone not able to come, let's not... unless we can all cover anyone who can't make it otherwise.

I'd much rather we stick to The Plough as the chances of finding anywhere free of lots of people on a Friday were always going to be remote. If this were the Summer we would have more choices in terms of sitting outside, but we don't because my secret plans for a weather satellite have come to naught (who knew you couldn't use empty fairy liquid bottles and toilet rolls?). We've got people coming before the main post-work rush begins, we can stake a claim and work out from there...

Ploughs ok with me, just offering up a few more suggestions. I'll try and get there before 5 as well.

Could we not, you know... book the Plough?

Also, the Princess Louise is still closed, and staying that way until next year.

The George is a fucking horrible pub inside, and it's frankly too cold to expect everyone to sit outside, even with heaters. (I always bring two heaters - at my waist.) I would not suggest changing horses mid-race: the Plough isn't actually any smaller than anywhere else that local that isn't shit, surely?

I quite like the George inside but then i'm quite partial to a bit of fucking horrible now and then. But yea, tiny pubs around the Plough area so we might as well stick there.

The George is fine when it's warm, but when it's cold the courtyard is no good and the rooms are too small.

Let's call the Plough and reserve the upstairs room pretending to be a gynaecologist's seminar! Otherwise, back to the old faithful crazy-eyes plan.

Yes lets reserve the upstairs room if it's not too much. Then the people who have cash can chip in and if anyone is feeling skint it won't matter. I'm up for chipping.

I'm up for chipping; and i discovered that my radio show that night has been postponed for a week because of the London Musician's Collective festival - so I can come to the ball, most likely. Ironically, the radio show would have been on Borough High Street, just near London Bridge, but the Plough is fine with me if it suits everyone else.

Yay! Let's call it a plan.

Right, well, presuming that there isn't someone quicker off the mark than me I'll try and find out in the next day or two what the cost is, whether they've got that evening free as it is and what we would and wouldn't get for our money. After that we can decide whether it might be easier to strip Quantum naked and chuck him in through the window again to clear the place out.

Right. By my count we've got about 20 confirmed. Is that about right?

Already booked unfortunately. There's no price for hiring the room but there is a 'minimum spend' expected. Unfortunately she wouldn't tell me what that was, but it's all irrelevent now, so it looks like the 'Quantum in Woad' option is back in play.

Well we will either vote someone to be the crazy person that drives others to move (not a bad plan although anti-social) or slowly spread out as people arrive so that we take over the pub!

I'll be the person clutching chocolate trying to hope I pick the right group of people to wander over to, that's if you forget your golden bird of course....

I'll try and remember to wear my white badge, though the last time I looked at it it was starting to get a bit moldy, less a mirror, more a source of a powerful neurotoxin should anyone attempt to eat it.

... or two if anyone is hoping to coax Ganesh down the pub for a night with all us lovelies.

Shall we just call this the Barbelith Wake and be done with it?

Our Lady Has Left the Building

Hasn't that been the tone of all the get-togethers for the last year? Perhaps we should all agree to scramble our passwords the morning after the get together?

We won't be in the mood the morning after. We need to get online collectively at about 10.45pm and do it.

I didn't know this would shape up to be a virtual cult massacre party.

...I'll bring virtual kool-aid!

PS: If you want me to have contact with you for logistical purposes (or more nefarious purposes) plz pm your phone numbers; I don't have a cell phone that will work in your country yet.

I'll be there. I'll pull a double shift (get there early, leave late) like the workhorse that I am.

If it's gonna be the Barbewake, maybe we should invite people who might not see this thread. Like Ganesh or the-Umeboshi-that-was, make it like those final episodes of TV shows where all the ones that left earlier for movie careers come back for emotion-drenched cameos...
