I'm an idealist. I'm also an optimist. I would like to believe, therefore, that there is some redeeming intent somewhere behind starting up a thread in reply to the locking of the previous thread, deep down. I'd like, if possible, to see it as a an act of contrition, and a chance to re-present the views you wanted to previously in a better context, with more information.
I wouldn't expect such a post to start thus, then;
Since I broke the rules inadvertantly in my last thread, and pissed off the usual lonely angry dorks, I decided to try and get it right this time. After all, I came to Barbelith for a reason, and it wasn't to annoy, nor to waggle my digital dick in your faces.
zedoktar, you didn't 'break the rules'. You posted a list thread, which is something people don't cotton to round here. It's fine suggesting things you think people should listen to. If it sounds interesting, yes, I would personally take the time out to google it myself. However, it's impossible to pick out the signal from the noise when there's so much noise, as in your first thread, wherein you suggested around a hundred bands. All good and dandy, but do people need to search for Pink Floyd? Or the Grateful Dead?
Your reply to people's views on this is as petulant as your first paragraph here. C'mon, Care Bears? As I say, I love having music suggested to search for. I treasure it. I don't treasure massive lists, and I certainly have no space in my heart to treasure the phrases 'lonely angry dorks' or 'waggle my digital dick'.
People have said what I'm aiming to say in shorter and punchier ways, but; please, by all means, recommend music. It's just nicer and better somehow if it comes with more than a short precĂs, or, worse, nothing, recommending it. It's not that people want you to present a dossier on everything - but lists, as a rule, suck, and look like you may be trying to prove something.
So do prove something. Prove me wrong, and stop acting like you've been told off by Teh Sekrit Masters of Barbelith, and especially stop getting your 'digs' in, because it does you no favours.

On-topic, I would like to recommend Jay Chou, an album of whose I recently picked up as a random purchase. The musical style varies, but when it burns, it really burns. You can see a few videos here, here, here and, hopefully, here, although I may have to review those links tomorrow having slept to make sure they're working. |
