Is there anything fun to do in London?

From a pal of mine:

"One of my ex-girlfriends is coming up this weekend to visit and has just asked me if I have got anything fun lined up.

Does anyone know anything fun to do in London? Cos fun for me is going to the pub, and we can't just spend all of the weekend in the pub.(Chorus of WHY NOT?!) Well, we can't, ok?

I immediately started thinking about museums but those are boring, not fun, right?

And then, well then I really start running out of ideas. I don't even know what FUN is for Christ's sake! Wait - it's being drunk, right? Christ, what am I going to do?

Where have I had fun in London that isn't a pub?

...

...

Christ."

So, any suggestions? Anything this weekend (apart from the Notting Hill Carnival - he doesn't fancy it) that doesn't cost much. They're both skint.

My first thought was dodgems, but apparently they don't have any in London.

Does he actually know what his ex-girlfriend likes, because that might be a clue to why there's an EX in there. He should figure out what she likes (or, better yet, overlapping likes (if any)) and do that.

But museums are cool ! All the kids say so.

This may be helpful. Otherwise they could try looking for cheap gig listings? But yeah, if she's visiting then he ought to play the role of gracious host and if necessary indulge her interests above his own.

Get a boat from the Savoy pier to Greenwich. Takes you right through the centre of London, it's fast, fun and costs about £4. And there's pubs in Greenwich.

Tate Modern is pretty fun. In fact I always find the South Bank a good bet in general, although that sort of relies on the weather being better than atrocious (although to a lesser extent than going to, say, a park).

For a glorious moment upon seeing this thread, I thought Saveloy might be coming to London, which would surely have guarenteed an injection of FUN into the lives of even the city's drabbest citizens.

But yes, in summation, there is generally not much to do in London which is strictly speaking "fun". Except maybe sitting in the park if the weather's nice. Which it isn't.

Thanks, all! Suggestions have been forwarded.

(Riz: Daww, thanks! But I'm afraid the truth would be more like... Have you seen that episode of Father Ted with the visitor who just sits on the sofa and stares into space?)

If the suggestions also included the relationship stuff I would give the love to Saveloy

Who is a whole lot of fun, (prizes to be won) I'm sure.
