I am a bit surprised that the only thread about Haneke on the film forum is about his latest film. I've been trying to get my friends to watch his films for a couple of years and have recently succeeded. His Funny Games remake is out early next year which caused much astonishment when it was announced. This was mostly because of his feelings about Hollywood throughout his career. Not to defend him prematurely but I suspect that it is the best way of getting through to an audience that Funny Games was really meant for but the foreign language and obscurity didn't help. The counter argument would be that the remake won't be released widely but I'm hopeful that a number of people will revise their feelings about the portrayal of violence, "audience ethics" and their relationship to people like Quentin Tarantino (who also has other problems that this isn't the thread for).
I've seen all his films (except the tv films) and want to talk about them. So who's seen them and what do you think? |
