And then we can form a tribute band called The Soup Kittens, and the C86 revival will be complete.

Ahh, Audrey Baxter kens whit makes a guid soup. That's because she's been making Baxter's best for twenty years here in Fochaber, and knows that the best soup comes from sweet little kittens.

You know it makes sense.

Finally, I got sorted out what's your cat's name, in my head:

TESLA!

Why? because, for some reason, he makes me think of David Bowie in "The Prestige".

Our new barbekitteh sure does look coiled and ready to spring!

Tesla is a great name for a cat.

But not for a rock band.

That was simply the wrong band. Nothing wrong about the name, itself. They should just sound like the Boredoms covering Red Elvises.

Tesla is beyond excellent as a cat-name, though. Oh, yes.

Well, it was a trully unexpected picture-promoted inspiration for me, indeed. Glad I could help a little.

And, Kali, I could resist kitten cuteness if I wanted, but that would be like living alone in a barren wasteland, digging holes in the ground for no good reason, if you know what I mean...

Well, after some debate, we've settled on Milo. He was a stray, and was only at Battersea for a week, but in that time phonic sounds starting with M seem to have made an impression on him. He's responding to Milo quite happily.

He's also figured out how to jump up to our loft bed, and also decided that creeping up slowly then leaping three foot in the air and pouncing on my foot under the covers is GREAT FUN. Which is fab, at 3am.

His sekrit name will be Tesla Severus Grimpaw though. Cos, yeah, Tesla is awesome, we're both Harry Potter fans and XK's gothickal nicknames appeal to me.

Cheers all!

Too late to the party to suggest Flashman.

Oh well.

you went to the dog's home. and you got a cat.

that makes sense. does it?

anyway, happy pet ownernessing. i got a beautiful puppy a few weeks back (hence a deal more silence than once upon a freer time) and it is distressing and perturbing and wonderful and entirely brilliant!

do cat's need names? they don't come, do they?

Mine do. But they're a bit weird.

I wanted to rename them when I got them but they responded really well to their names (Rosie and Poppy) and I didn’t want to confuse them. Although Rosie always looks confused anyway, so maybe it wouldn’t have made much of a difference.

Rosie and Poppy can haz sekrit nayms?

Astrojax - Battersea's full title is 'Dogs and Cats Home', but it's almost universally only by the Dog bit. But yes, they have lots of cats.

I'd love a dog, but our flat is too tiny I fear.

My cats come when they are called, in fact I know a fair few do. Although admittedly they don't bound over like dogs do, they more saunter.

ooh fancy!

I think I need a sekrit kitteh name seeing as I'm now carrying cat DNA since the accident last year.

“Sauntering” implies a certain aloofness and grace. Rosie isn’t like that. Rosie is all “I’M COMING! I’M COMING! I’M HALFWAY DOWN THE STAIRZ! I’M ON MY WAY! ALMOST THERE! HERE I AM! HERE I AM! I CAN HAZ CUDDELZ?”

She’s very talkative.

"I'VE DID A POO! I'VE JUST DID A POOOOO!"

Anyways - thank you, monk. Here’s a picture of Rosebud Merriweather Basking in Sunbeams after she’d stuck her head in the waste pipe while my bathroom was being revamped.

Crazy Eyes

Isn't he getting big? These are the 'Crazy Eyes' he makes right before he claws your face off. He's a good mouser too. And he's finally got used to his name (he loves Tesla Severus Grimpaw too).

Though he only uses it to sign his income tax return and similar legal documentation...

And "crazy eyes" indeed. Mice from 6 blocks aways must share terror stories about him already.

Baxter makes me think of the French movie about the terrier. I always remember the line, "Never let dogs lick you. They use their tongues for toilet paper."
