The admin functions stuff is one of the most annoying aspects of Vista and something that you're going to knock up against an awful lot unless you turn the User Account Control gubbins off.
Go to the start menu and click on your user avatar thing at the top right. You can turn UAC off from there. It's basically a bit of functionality that asks you whether or not you're sure that you want to do whatever it is you're wanting to do every fucking time that you try to do it - "Windows needs your permission to continue", "Are you sure that you want to let this program do that thing you asked it to do?", "Wait, have you thought this through properly?", etc.
The alternative, if for some bizarre reason you don't want to turn UAC off (and I can't see any reason why you wouldn't, other than that Vista will tell you that your computer's security is at risk every time you log on in future, which isn't *that* much of a hassle) is to right-click the icon of the app that you want to run and select "run as administrator". Although that doesn't work all the time, in my experience.
Also, just a quick warning about something I only discovered through personal experience: don't download Quicktime. It fucks random Vista installs up good and proper.
As, you'll no doubt soon discover, do a lot of other applications that you're probably used to using. |
