Good morning.. I know it's not 100 percent in the nature of the usual forum blather but.. I could use your help. Not being based in london myself I'm not entirely sure what the metropolitan police car looks like. I have searched the web but there seem to be various types (some green and yello, some red and white). would some one please point me to a current view of a metropolitan police car?

I know I'm missing something but its a bit of a rush job I have to do and I'm going ga-ga ovr here. sorry can't give more details. All help greatfully recieved.

(I have hot fuzz at home - shame I didn't think to bring it in with me today!)

Here's a few on the street where I live a few months back:

Not clear pictures of the cars as such, but you get the general idea.

A Google image search for "Met police car" led to:

and

for example as well,

And also try here - there's a whole bunch of pictures of varying vintages, including current ones. Generally they seem to be silver with orange stripes (I'm not sure if anyone still calls them jam sandwiches) and with high-visibility orange and yellow warning stripes across the back.

Red and white police cars in London are from the Met's Diplomatic Protection Group. You see cars with blue and yellow Battenburg (named after the cake) chequers as well for higher visibility, though not as much as the silver and orange kind.

Yeh the most common Met police cars I see in town seem to be the silver Vauxhall Vectras or BMW 5 series.

I'm told they're silver rather than white now because it grants them better re-sale value.

Personally I wouldn't go with those images if I were you, I'd get Jack to draw one instead.

Nothing much to add outside that I also heard the story about the switch from white to silver being about resale value...

Not that I'm aware of any ex-police vehicles being available for purchase...

European police cars, a lot of them, are far more interesting than any American or Canadian police car. The Wikipedia page has a huge collection of pics.
