I'm making my off-Bway debut in a show about the Iowa caucus in next year's Presidential election, at the theater that Avenue Q started in. It's been a load of fun, and our final week (of a 2-week run) is this Wed. - Sat. (8 pm shows) and ends this coming Sunday (matinee 3 pm). Tickets are $18, and it's a collection of short pieces (10-15 min. each) about how politics affects the lives of everyday people in that fabled state. There are 7 short plays and 3 songs; the show runs 1 hr. and 15 min, no intermission.
I'm genuinely a big fan of the whole show & all the pieces. The writing is not preaching-to-the-converted typical NY Democrats bashing Republicans (and I say that as a NY Democrat)... and I think everyone in the show does a fine job. I play a Stephen Colbert-meets-Garrison Keillor-type narrator in a piece about a marriage that crumbles during the caucus. Half the cast has Broadway credits, as does almost the entire production & stage management staff. It's been a very exciting opportunity. The director is the asst. director to the Doug Hughes, the original director of DOUBT and the recent INHERIT THE WIND revival with Christopher Plummer and Brian Dennehy. (and Doug Hughes attended on Friday night, which we were very happy about)
I also had my very first Broadway audition last week (actual appointment, not a general call) for a role in a comedy being done at the Roundabout this fall starring Rosie Perez (it's a 1970s Terrence McNally play). Fingers crossed; I felt it went well.
Anyway, if anyone is interested in coming out and supporting, tix for the IOWA show are at this link. Forgive the self-promotion, but this is a real show and not a tiny off-off-Bway venture, and I feel the piece is genuintely worth seeing. Peace out.
