Went to this yesterday.
It's very good- basically each section juxtaposes an artist from Britain with a contemporaneous artist working in either a similar style or with similar themes in America. For me, obviously, the biggest draw was the COUM Transmissions room, focused on the infamous Prostitution show at the ICA in 1974 (with a whole wall of "ban this sick filth" newspaper cuttings), but there's loads of good stuff. Not much of an art buff, so there was quite a bit I didn't "get", but Derek Jarman's in there, as are Robert Mapplethorpe, Keith Haring, Jenny Holzer and Gilbert & George.
There're also some great pictures by Raymond Pettibon, the guy who did all Black Flag's artwork.
Has anyone else been, or is anyone else planning on going? Perhaps someone who's better at talking about art than me? |
