you come to glasgow, we don't accept this.
This is glasgow. We'll set about you.

John Smeaton, 2007 (youtube)

What's your favourite response to terr'r today? What response would you like to see? Personally I'm waiting on a prominent Glaswegian politician echoing the feelings of the people I've spoken to. Something along the lines of "Was that it? Seriously? Youse are fucking rubbish terrorists!"

Until then john smeaton will have to do.

I'd like someone to drop a nuclear bomb on Scotland.

Is that a response to the nationalist terror comapigns coming south with a Glasgow postmark?
Or is it just about the football songs?

Bruce Schneier has written several great essays on terrorism and our reaction to it here and here, which mirror my thoughts exactly.

"The point of terrorism is to cause terror, sometimes to further a political goal and sometimes out of sheer hatred. The people terrorists kill are not the targets; they are collateral damage. And blowing up planes, trains, markets or buses is not the goal; those are just tactics. The real targets of terrorism are the rest of us: the billions of us who are not killed but are terrorized because of the killing. The real point of terrorism is not the act itself, but our reaction to the act."

That last line seams to be something people miss every time.

Of course, of course ... but Scotland should still be nuked though, shouldn't it?

I liked when Blumberg told New Yorkers not to freak out about the supposed 'Pipelin Plot" to blow up JFK Airport, because they are more likely to get killed by a bus then by a terror attack.

Also rather more likely to get killed by self.

Mark E - new material? Sadly not as good as old.

I'd like someone to drop a nuclear bomb on Scotland.

That's nice, dear.

What I like most about the Smeaton interview is the point at which the interviewer asks him about the car being on fire, and he answers

"Oh, yeah. It was like... anyone that has ever thrown a deoderant can into a bombfire would know exactly what it sounded like. Like that, only much louder"

As if she would know exactly what he was talking about.

I'm sure I also heard him call one of the terrorists 'the gentleman' at one point.

I don't understand why that's funny, Mark E.

Not many people know this, but Mark E Smith (Barbelith version) is himself a son of the manse. A dour son of the manse.

Oh the enduring hatred of Scotland permeating every little thing he does. Tell me Mark E Smith, what are your opinions on Gordon Brown?

I have to say though, the guy that runs johnsmeaton.com really does sound like a smug tosser.

what are your opinions on Gordon Brown?

He's just another puppet for the alien overlords, that should fuck off, stop being miserable, and find a cooler job.

Oh no wait up! I remember now. He's too obsessed with making the ECONOMY bigger and bigger until there's nothing left, the selfish cockunt. Wow, I bet Bush will love this guy.

There's a thread in Switchboard on this topic which... no, actually you'd probably best just stay here, Kal-Varr.
