All things Fallout

I figured that there would be a topic like this on here already, but nope, so I'll give it a shot:

Fallout 1 and 2 are my favorite computer games of all time. I've played through fallout 2 at least ten times in the past decade, and have had a fun and challenging experience every time. For those not in the know, The fallout series is a post apocalyptic rpg that takes place in sort of a retro fifties vision of the future, i.e. 200 years in the future, but a future where tv's still use tubes, and cars are still monsterously oversized.

Anyhow, screenshots of Fallout 3 have been released, and opionions are pretty split. I think it looks like a fantastic reimagining of the series, but it seems like a lot the series hardcore fans are angry that it isn't... well, the exact same game it used to be. So, any opinions?

Not just screenshots, but also a Trailer, which a friend pointed out to me last week. Plus, hey, Ron Perlman.

I have to agree that the Fallout games were pretty fine, in terms of massive playability and their sandbox nature, from character creation upwards. I can't speak for the PS2/Xbox games (which are, apparently, non-canon), nor for the squad-based 'third' game whose name temporarily escapes me.

However, it's been around six years since I've played them, so this week is probably going to revolve around the fact you can get all 3 PC games for less than a tenner and a great deal of trippage down memory lane. I think I'll come back to the thread once I've replayed through at least one and two some more.

Hell Yeah! The greatest thing about the games, as a broke lad, anyway, was the fact that you could dump the whole game on your harddrive, so you didn't need to keep the actual disc around. So, for the first 2 years I had this game, it was borrowed and d/l'd from a friend.

Also, food for thought for people who have had conversations about the viability of threads regarding other media not due out for a long, long, long time, most notably films; Fallout 3 isn't due out for another year, and yet there are already 3,075 (count them) posts on the Bethesda forums.

Hmm.

Weirdly enough I'm playing through Fallout 1 at the moment, the whole buzz around Fallout 3 had me gripped so I thought I'd play through 2 then 1 while I had some spare time.

I'm just about to strike out to the glow for my favourite part of the first game, I love the conversation you have there, it's just perfect.

And oooh boy did they hit the right notes with that teaser, Ink Spots music plus Ron Pearlman, pure fan service .

I'm one of the few fans of Fallout:Tactics. It's probably the best turn-based multiplayer tactical game I've ever played (yes, quite a few qualifiers there). It was basically X-Com played in teams with a more interesting and attractive background. You could play in real time, too, but I'm not one for that. The only real issue was some imbalance in the weapons, with no sensible reason not to give every single character either a sniper rifle or fully automatic shotgun.

My copy of the triple pack is on it's way, and I was always intrigued by Tactics, so I'm looking forward to that.

Will report back when have played!
