So, to help Allecto Regina's plan to counterstrike his racist acquaintances using pro-equality propaganda, suggestions here please!

I intend to literally fill the house with these. Preferabbly make them as intimidating as possible.

Would a large banner that said "Racists Go Home" be suitable? It isn't their house, after all. I'm thinking super large, like the size of a wall.
You could learn some good 'they shall not pass' folk songs and sing them in his face when he comes to the door too.

Some to get you started(by The Newtown Grunts):
"They shall not pass! was the battle cry,
As they turned to stem the fascist tide
Send them back, in their shirts of black,
They'll never here taste victory"

Let me know if you want an MP3 to practise along to.

I think a stereo on full vol would be more effective, although most of the protest or anti-racist songs are rubbish. (e.g. Chumbawumba)
Let me rack my brains for a good Dylan song, or something from the Billy Bragg ouvre.

Quantum naively posted an Islamophobic picture here thinking it was satire because he's an idiot

The grunts' song is fantastic, though.
Plus, if you're singing it in someone's face so they leave your house it doesn't have to be entertaining them.

Also, isn't that the opposite of what we want, Quants?

I suspect Atari Teenage Riot's "Hunt Down And Kill The Nazis" might make itself demand attention; and how about the Dead Kennedys' "Nazi Punks Fuck Off?" left playing on a loop?

A loud stereo is good.
I still think screaming the lyrics in someone's face on your doorstep is better.

Songs I'm drawing a bit of a blank on, but "A Change is Gonna Come," by Sam Cooke, "Hurricane" by Bob Dylan, "Bourgeois Blues" by Leadbelly and "All you Fascists" by Woody Guthrie should start you off. Not really punk enough for your purpose though.

The Guthrie one would work well, i reckon.

They Might Be Giants, 'Your Racist Friend'?

Goddammit, that's the exact song I was trying to think of.

This is where the party ends
I can't stand here listening to you
And your racist friend
I know politics bore you
But I feel like a hypocrite talking to you
And your racist friend

"Can't shake the devil's hand and say you're only kidding", they are so cool.

Also, isn't that the opposite of what we want, Quants?

Huh? What? The 'This is your brain on Islamofascism' poster?

The Guthrie one would work well, i reckon

"Race hatred cannot stop us
This one thing we know
Your poll tax and Jim Crow
And greed has got to go
You're bound to lose
You fascists are bound to lose"

Sorry, you're right- I was thinking of Allecto's IDF guest and his views. I got caught up in the anti-facism and started conflating, I'll try and keep it about race.

For images, I've tried to keep it to anti racism as opposed to the strictly anti fascist stuff, although I have a fair bit of the latter if that would be useful.

Musicwise, if you're looking for punk type stuff, there's a lot of anti racist songs by either the Blaggers ITA, The Oppressed or Oi Polloi. Attila the Stockbroker's Barnstormer have several anti racist songs as well, as does Attila's solo work.

How's that then? I was reading it as a parody of the 'This is your brain on drugs' ad, mocking the bigoted stereotype purveyed by Islamofascists. Am I misreading the satire? Or is it that the cartoon imagery is offensive, so it doesn't matter that it was a joke? I'm not digging I'm afraid.

'Islamofascist' is a new word to me. Does it mean a person who follows Islam, while also advocating totalitarian regimes, or is it a person who is a 'fascist'* against Islam/Muslims?

If it is the first, i am not sure why Islamofascists would purvey such a stereotype of themselves. If they second then, yeah i can see that it might be a parody of the imaginings of an anti-muslim racist. Odd parody tho.

* used in the looser sense of 'you hate and are racist and try to control stuff'.

Try reading it without the irony. Just for a moment.

Perhaps you should read the editorial cartoons on the NY Post page 5 (or wherever they are now). Or maybe not.

(Is "purveyed" right?)

Yeah, I'm sorry Quants but that's a bit to close to the stuff that's being bandied around in mainstream papers in all seriousness.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
19:22 / 15.06.07
Yeah, that one really needs a lot of context- I didn't see it as ironic. If you're just gonna put it up in someone's house, for example, it's not really going to have any indication that it's taking the piss, which I'm still not quite sure it is. Either way, it's sending out dangerously mixed signals at best.

Quantum

Blimey. It came up by searching 'anti-racism poster' so I saw it in a page full of pics mocking racists, I suppose the context coloured it for me. When I look at it I see a totally OTT caricature highlighting the stupid things asshats say (e.g. Londonistan), a snowclone of the brain-on-drugs thing.
I didn't think anyone would read it as an anti-moslem cartoon, the satire seemed plain.

*reads grant's link*

Oh Jesus.
I see.
OK, my bad. I couldn't even find the one grant meant (I gave up after four or five) but clearly, I was overestimating the average cartoon and the general public's perception of Islam.
Crikey

'Islamofascist' is a new word to me.

Oh. Ah. Looking it up, I discover that it isn't in fact a person who is virulently Islamophobic as I thought, it's actually an offensive right wing epithet equating Islam with Fascism. Not only does it mean the opposite of what I thought, I suddenly realise that the cartoon I posted is not biting satire of Islamophobes at all, but disgusting Islamophobia. Great.
*ahem*
Could somebody who mods conversation please agree my request to replace the thing with a tag saying 'Quantum naively posted an Islamophobic picture here because he's an idiot' while I go and get a stiff drink and blush a lot.
It's really not satire? Fuck. I'm depressed now. My rose tinted spectacles are smashed. At least I have rose wine.

If it's any consolation, dude, I read it as mocking the concept of "Islamofacism" as a pernicious drug creating hallucinations.

Aaaanyway, suggestions on anti-racist songs for Legba to sing? Flyboy? Anyone?

Shiny: Well Over Thirty

Song wise I'd go with Woody Guthrie by Alabama 3. Lyrics are;

'Another psychopath in Iowa
loading up another round
While the NRA in Columbine
hunt Marilyn Manson down
Powder in the Pentagon
cruel letters in the mail
Some KKK white supremicist
cooking up a dose of race hate

Don't need no country
Don't fly no flag
Cut no slack for the union jack
Stars and stripes have got me jetlagged

Some baby in Afganistan
crying for its' mama now
while the BNP scare refugees
senseless up in Oldham town
Hypocrites in Downing Street
pouring petrol on the name
Satpal cries, asks Paddy
why do we always get the blame

sing a song for the asylum seeker
for the frightened baby on some foreign beach
you'd better bang a gong and pray
they reach a safe harbour

Some mother in Jakarta
lays down her weary head
in some free trade zone compound
here they work you 'til you're dead
Hunger stalks the corridor
famine and disease
I seen the multinationals
walking hand in hand
with globalising marketeers'

Definitely one of my favourite anti rascist songs. I'm often not quite sure when Alabama 3 are taking the piss and when they're deadly serious, but I'm reasonably certain they mean it with this one.

"iiif you're happy and non-racist, clap your hands!
If you're happy and non-racist, clap your hands!
You like people and you know it,
Multicultural? then show it!
If you're happy and non-racist, clap your hands!"

Good one for the kids, that one.

Even now, it still looks to me like it's taking the piss out of islamophobes.

I am pretty certain that's what it is doing. But its sardonic sense of humour does somewhat undermine a rather important message, that and it is seemingly open to woeful misinterpretation.

I am enjoying the music suggestions though. Haven't listened to that Gutherie song in ages...

In terms of why racism is a bad thing, as opposed to a good thing, I like this, by The Disasters, from their new album. The song is called 'Racism Is Not A Good Thing, It's A Bad Thing';

It goes;

'Racism!
It's bad!
It's not good
If you feel that way
Then you probably should
'Nt

Aargh.'

I checked out the website of the image Quantum posted and it's really nasty. But on reflection I can see why he thought it was a parody. It's nice in a way that he assumed good faith...

I completely get why a person would assume it was a pisstake. It's just fucked up that there are people that fucked up...
