Magical Gathering - August 2007

Dates; 8th August 2007 to 15th August 2007
Venue; Somerset, near Glastonbury.
Cost; to be calculated based on interest.

Event; Drop in-drop out or stay the whole week Reclaiming community based gathering with magical workshops, walks and shopping trips. I think food is included in the cost.

*** Backstory; ***
The Reclaiming communities in different countries host events called 'Witchcamps' where everyone gets together for an intensive week/long weekend to learn and do magic in a Reclaiming style. These are great fun, but due to low numbers of bookings this year the Camp in England has been cancelled. However, the venue, near Glastonbury, is still available and the deposit has alread been paid... so a week long gathering has been proposed. People can come for a day, a few days, or the whole week. Workshops will be run by participants and it should be great fun. It is open to the curious and the terminably involved.

The only problem at the minute is that without ideas of interest, cost is hard to calculate. Most Reclaiming gatherings are done on a sliding scale and people with financial difficulty are accomadated as best as possible, but as this is a not-for-profit event, and given recent events leading to cancellation, the budget tends to be tight.

So; I am here to ask how many people here might be interested in such a thing. Please, feel free to ask me questions about the event etc. and I will post estimated prices as soon as I get them.

I'm going to the Free Activist Witchcamp, also in August. I really think this sounds like a neat idea and fully endorse it. If I could go I surely would.

I'm very much up for this, for a bunch of different reasons. I may even be able to drum up a few more participants. I'm busy on the 8th but could come after that. Can I bagsy a yurt? The site looks gorgeous, by the way.

Excellent! The more the merrier!

To be honest, I'm not sure if there will be a yurt, it costs extra to hire it and the community hasn't gotten enough funds for their own yet. There will be rooms and camping space though. But, there has been talk of doing a yurt-building weekend, if enough people were interested in paying their share for a teacher/materials I can suggest it as something to do over that week? Would learning to build a yurt (and helping out a community) interest you?

If you pm me your email address with contact name I can pass it on to the main organisers if you like, then when emails go out with more info you should get one. Same goes for others; questions/comments are good in thread as others will ask, but emails would be good via PM.

Here is the official announcement;

*****

Hi,

By now you will have heard about the fact that Avalon Witchcamp has had to be cancelled for this year.

Many campers were disappointed to hear the news and concerned about the possibility of losing their deposits. As a result a group of us have got together and are planning to hold a Reclaiming Summer Gathering at Earthspirit that week instead.

What we are proposing is a co-created week of rituals, workshops, socialising, networking, magic and more...

So far we have people offering workshops or activities on the following subjects:

* Shamanic Fooling
* Tarot Workshop
* a daily Philosophical Enquiry (engaging air/intellect!) around the Charge of the Goddess and the Principles of
Unity
* Art of the Elements.

More activities will be added shortly.

The week will be cheaper than Witchcamp as we will not be paying teachers or covering their travel expenses. Prices will be announced shortly, but the good news is that the more people book, the lower the prices will go. The other difference is that as this won't be an intensive like Witchcamp, you won't necessarily have to commit to the whole week (although we'd love you to come for the whole thing!). If you just want to come for one day (or two, or three etc) that will be fine. We will give prices as a daily rate and also for the week.

If you think you would like to come, please let me (Susan) know, and I will send you the full details and prices.

Please also don't hesitate to contact me if you have any queries, or if you think you could offer a workshop or other activity during the week.

Please let us know if you'd like to come along. We'd love to see you there!

Peace & Blessings
Susan

I've been offline recently, current residence doesn't have internet I can get to yet, so sorry if my replies are sporadic.

I've mentioned hiring the yurt to people organising this and it is too expensive, and the building workshop is probably too big an extra thing to run during this week, but there is definite interest in it generally, so please, info on the yurt building community would be wonderful, Quantum, and when things happen with that (whether during or post Gathering) I'll make sure to let everyone here know!

I will PM contact details in just a moment...

PM me and I'll send you email addresses to contact.

I am co-facilitating the 'Buffy Path' and the modern mythology workshops, these are based on using characters from modern stories as representatives for archetypes. I have co-ran these before and they are much fun and people generally get a lot out of them... we also don't claim that this is akin to deity work! If anyone wants to offer other things or has suggestions for what they'd like to see they are always welcome!
