Okay.

The cultural/political implications of wendesday's apparant attempted assault on the pope are quite worthy of note.
(youtube search: pope jump for video[google it for news coverage])

I could go on and on and on about this...but let's just leave it at pointing out the lack wit way in which the pope went on blessing people, completley oblivious to the ass-whoopin' his body gaurds were putting on the man who I believe could be accuratley described as the most intelligent in german history, and the most prudent practitioner of well reasoned action perhaps in the entire history of civilization, right fucking behind him!(It would be counter intuitive to call the parallel imagery with that of the catholic church's procession through history metaphoric)

Is this perhaps a long over due symptom of a fledgling culture of advanced intelligence?

This thread is terrible, Rusty.

What is it about? Should it be in the Head Shop?

Okay. This is obviously not a headshop thread. The Headshop is for "Philosophy, Cultural Studies and Identity Politics," none of which would appear to have anything to do with this topic. It looks to be about an assault perpetrated by the Pope's bodyguards, which would make it possibly a Switchboard thread. What we need (preferably from Rusty) would be a more meaningful description of the incident--name of the person assualted would be a good start--with links to a news report or two.

I'm going to put in for a move to Switchboard and PM Rusty with the suggestion that ze edit hir first post.

I'm sorry...I guess it hadn't occured to me that not everybody heard about the "derranged" man who attempted an apparent assault on the pope on wendesday...

Oh I think most of us have seen or read the news, it's more of a question of what you are wanting to say, cos outside of not seeming to like the Pope very much, you don't seem to be saying anything at all.

haha!...

Shit-
allow me an oppurtunity to reply before you act on your pressumptions. The post was up for less then an hour before it was erroneously appraised and relocated.

even a democratic state at least feigns due process.

Well, maybe it could have benefitted from spending an extra hour or two in your head, or a notepad file, so you could express your intentions properly in the opening post.

Then everyone wins.

Last I checked, Barbelith made no pretenses at being a democratic state—nor, indeed, any kind of state at all.

Not fond of Papa Ratzi. He is also, however, a very old man. He is furthermore a very old man with a LOT of well-trained and arguably overzealous bodyguards. There are two forces at work here which persuade one against attacking him—first, the very old man's inability to defend himself; second, the very old man's bodyguards' extreme competence at defending him. I would say that someone who would attempt to attack the Pope barehanded, or worse yet with a weapon, would have to be very foolish or possibly deranged indeed.

I'm sorry, Rusty. Are you saying that you originally intended this topic to fit into the categories of "Philosophy, Cultural Studies and Identity Politics"? I (and the two other moderators who had to agree the request for it to go through) thought you were attempting to open discussion on a recent news story. If you'd like to outline the relationship between this incicent and Philosophy, Cultural Studies and/or Identity Politics, I'm sure mods would be only too happy to move the thread back again.

I'm also sorry that you feel you were denied "due process." This would seem to imply that you think there was some punitive element in moving your topic from one part of the board to another. I'm afraid I don't really see why you would think that, but if you feel that your rights have been infringed upon by having your topic moved from one part of the board to another perhaps you would like to raise the matter in the Policy forum, where you will find a thread for Moderation requests & discussion thereof.

Back to the Pope?

oi...

excellent contribution sleaze.

you obviously thought hard about what it means to have nothing useful to say before issuing such a petty, impertinent, and poorly thought out charge.

But okay...let's look closer. Materials; social, intellectual, political, organic, corpereal materials. Seas of them, streamline cosmic chains and dislocated flights, all converging and re-emmerging right there, through that 'derranged' man, on that 'pope'(a convolution of emergence all its own) and being blocked, supressed even, by another analgous system of forces.

It is in this way that all actions are ennunciations a collective desire...this is activism.

And the whole thing, i think is funny.

Anyone?

any way.. I'm a true lover of fate...so long as my post winds up somewhere.

I never doubted your intentions to maintain the well rekownwed integrity of the site.

Nor did I ever over estimate my sleep deprived and caffeine addled brain in its cappacity to articulate an intelligeible set of thoughts or attend to there placement in the most appropriate avenue of presentation.

If only I had such a keen and accutely discerning voice as yours inside my head.

Ah, I see. You're a trickster figure, here to dance through our boring old rules and smash our reality tunnels. You're a Pookha. You're Anansi. You're Coyote. That about cover it?

In fairness to Rusty, not that fairness is of necessity required at this stage, the wildman thing is or appears to him attempting to lighten things up by quoting from the popular animated comedy series Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

Rust', I'm here to tell you it didn't work and won't work, for as long as the tone of your posts combines passing off your unwillingness to write coherently as (presumably self-inflicted) chemical fatigue with snide and immature asides towards others who would love you to actually contribute something worth reading.

What are the other two? Are they as highbrow as this fascinating gem?

Hey Rusty, I notice in your opener you said Is this perhaps a long over due symptom of a fledgling culture of advanced intelligence?
I'm not convinced of that myself. You also wrote Materials; social, intellectual, political, organic, corpereal materials. Seas of them, streamline cosmic chains and dislocated flights, all converging and re-emmerging right there, through that 'derranged' man, on that 'pope'(a convolution of emergence all its own) and being blocked, supressed even, by another analgous system of forces.
That's an example, right there, of why I don't feel we're moving toward a culture of advanced intelligence.

One looking for information on the film "Bene", one looking for other magickal practitioners in NYC in the Temple.

There's a potentially interesting thread about the different approaches and efficacies here - how the act of trying to attack the Pope might compare as contrast to the action of the Catholic church - but this was probably never going to be it, and certainly is not now. Lovely jumper, though.

It occurs to me that if anything is to be salvaged from this thread, it is the phrase "Pope jumper". I always wondered what the crazy youth of today would move on to once happy slapping and car surfing were passe... POPE JUMPING!!!

Me and the guys, on a Friday night, all hopped up on goofballs in Vatican City, well, we figured there was nothing for it but to sink a few beers and go Pope jumping...

Hell, there's no feeling like waking up in a cell with your best mate and looking him in the eye and saying "DUDE. We are SO excommunicated right now..."

Which Pope in History would you rather jump on?

Personally, I'd go for that Borgia guy, Alexander VI. But just to ask him "hey, how's your daugther?".

Or Peter. You know, the thrice-denying-the-J-Man dude who thougth it would be an interest way to dodge the 1 million silver piece question ("when jesus coming back, eh?") with a homophobic comment ("when men lay with men", blah blah blah). I hear he's important too.

I don't even remember which Pope it was, dude. But we jumped him real good. Man, it was AWESOME. See that hat go flying? Fuck, he had a face like thunder. Like the BVM Herself had just dropped a magnet onto his hard drive, and all those MP3s were gone, just singing with the angels now.

Mario's totally got his back.
