Stokefest 2007 is this Sunday (10th). Anybody coming out to drink booze in the (hopefully "hot sun") and eat food and watch bands and get haircuts and all that kind of malarkey?

Morning Bride are playing, at 1pm I believe, which is always worth getting out of bed for.

If anyone's going, either post here or PM me for a mobile number if you don't have it, and we can meet up and make with the booze and the drinking and the bands and the watching and that.

It was at Stokefest, that fateful dat four years ago that I met so many of you London-based Barbeloids.

I just hope that it doesn't rain too much!!!

I'm awfully tempted. But it's almost unbearable to think of getting there by 1 to see MB, which would be 1st priority. If it's raining and I'm too hung over, well, we'll see.

There may be a super-secret (well, not that secret) extra acoustic MB show later in the afternoon at some point.

Oh, and Pete Morning Bride's excellently filthy blues band The Dublo play at Ryan's on Church Street at 7pm, in a cunning piece of timing.

Do try to come along - it'd be nice to meet you.

Morning Bride were fucking ace... the Bikini Beach Band were fucking ace... the Destroyers were ALSO fucking ace... the huge fights my (not people off Barbelith, I hasten to add) friends ended up having between them weren't so cool and kind of ruined my day somewhat.

But 'twas nice running into Apophenia randomly, and for the most part it was wicked.

Yes indeed, the Bride rocked, and it was cool to see them on a huge stage at last. The banner-waving fanclub of primary school children were hilarious and quite touching too*. Video footage to go on Youtube soonish. Their proposed acoustic set was cancelled due to their guitars getting knocked about in the van.

The Bikini Beach Band were excellent and I'll make every effort to see them again; I missed The Destroyers by going off to see The Dublo, who were on top form. The barn dance was quite fun, but a bit too chaotic.

On the whole though, I feel the festival is becoming a bit generic these days, and not that local any more. It's still fun, and conveniently not far to stumble home from, but Stokefest is also rapidly losing its connection to where it is held.

The Fringe in August should redress that balance, hopefully.

Shame I missed you, Apophenia.

*MB are so down with the kids.

Only caught the last 4 songs of MB, which was however effin brilliant! And I *think* I spotted Django somewhere in the crowd there up front, filming/photographing perhaps? Wasn't sure if it was your good self, plus I had a bad case of hang-over type introversion. Excuses excuses, I know.

Else it was a beautiful day, loads of interesting stuff to see and hear, and feeling strangely like being back in Oslo courtesy of all the nearing-middle-age hipsters with leetle kids, prams and weird hair-dos. The kids' hair-dos. All in all something I very much look forward to repeating next year.

Thanks everyone for dragging yourselves out of bed to see us, it was really fun! And what a perfect day for it as well...

At least you didn't look like a giant. Nor did you glow, except in that metaphorical sense.

Franker Nolte: yep, that was most likely me taking the pix and filming at the front.

I'll post a thread about the Fringe closer to the time (it's in August) to remind people about that as well.

There's a small possibility I might be going to Oslo for a festival in August, so I can compare and contrast, assuming I make it to Norway.

Tell me more about the Fringay, please! And Norway, are you going to Oya? Lemme know, I might be able to swing some crash space for you. PM's your uncle.

By the by, since it seems to me that some of you very active people are based in or around the N16 area, why don't we get this thread modded to include all manner of Stoke-festivitas? Like Fringe, gigs and sundry Stokeana.

Oh, man. Alexa looks so cool with those sunglasses on.

Doesn't she? You should all wear them at festivals next time. And fezzes, and ruffled shirts and... and... then you'd look like the Bikini Beach Band.

So maybe just add the sunglasses.
