It was expected really, with my Dad being bald at the back for so long, so there's not too much shock, but I think it's starting to properly thin out after my mate asked me if I was going thin at the back last night.

So where do I go from here? Here's 3 things that come to mind :

I thought male-pattern baldness was inherited through the mother's genes. What was your maternal grandfather's hair like?

He had hair all his life, and wasn't bald at all. I'm not sure that that's what happens though... I decided to go for option 2 anyway if it happens, and am just getting the whole lot shaved straight off. I've never heard of it coming from the mothers side though.

To pull off number three, here's the essential ingredients:
1)an expensive wig meticulously placed

2)over the top glasses

3)a suit worth more than a car that doesn't quite fit

4)a grand piano... You'd have to carry it everywhere to make it work, or you could carry this?

Ha! Yeah I could carry that for sure. It appears that this bald thing isn't so bad after all, if I can get a look like that going.

As for the gene thing, I was googling it and it looks like it's a pretty random set of things when it comes to deciding how it happens. The problem of whether or not it comes from the mother or fathers side appears to end up fairly random aswell, so maybe I'll just go thin after all. Will post pics of my shaved head if the worst comes to the worst anyway.

Yeah, my hair started to thin out about a year or so ago. No big deal. But then I noticed it started to grow in red. Red! WTF? Just one or two here and there, not noticible. But still... red?

I started to go noticeably bald when I was 17. Baldness was something I knew was going to happen since I was little; my father and his father and my mother's father are/were all bald, nothing I could do. I say don't shave it off completely, get a hold of an electric shaver and use the smallest attachment, this gives you some hair, but not enough to make you look like you are trying to hide it. Plus, a large segment of the population (men/women/trans/and so on) find this look to be quite attractive. Don't shy away from the bald, embrace it and love it!

Not balding, but already at the age of 25, sprouting a significant amount of white hairs. I really wasnt expecting this, as my dad, 56, has only just started to get greys and hasnt even started thining out yet. mind you, he didnt spend his youth quite the same way i have been, if you know what i mean...
So, do i start dying it now before anybody notices, or leave it and go for the silver fox look?

There's nothing pervy about not dipping your head in a bucket of bleach.

Silver fox, Joe Christmas! Grey/silver hair framing a young face is oddly attractive and will get you 'nuff senority respeck at work.

Not everybody can pull off a hat like Ratso there.

I'd agree with Totep -- don't shave, just clip it way short (ask 'em to use a #1 or #1/2 clipper).

Why? Don't you?

Think very carefully about your reply.

You know what they do to you if you say you don't like them.

I vote for going down the route of innovation and popularising the comb-forwards.

Have been meaning to try it out myself for ages now, but, y'know, I still have some self-respect.
