That looks a little un-orchid like, Mist, but that doesn't mean it isn't. There are no roots poking out of the ground, which most houseplant orchids usually have, being epiphytes (nearly always). The flesh at the base looks more tender than most, not as leathery, which they also usually tend to be--to protect themselves from dry spells with no real root systems and soil to exploit. That is some fungus on the surface, you might think about repotting it with some fresh soil, though the fungus might not be more than digesting compost in the soil mixture. It looks pretty good, though. Do you remember the flower at all?
Sibelian, your phal is kicking. I've got seven or eight orchids, six are phalaenopsis and right now none are flowering.
