Any tips? Consider me a babe in the woods. I've got a Lubitel med-format camera and know bugger-all about it - anyone had some good results with these, or MF in general? Film seems to be relatively cheap, I guess, but would like to know how to get more interesting shots out of it. Or to get anything at all, frankly. As I'm crap with a manual. Hints, please!

is it a twin-lens reflex number?

Yep. It's a Lubitel 166B TLR. Some info here, but am looking for pitfalls and tips from y'all...

Wish I could help you out, but my camera's a 35mm...I did find a webring catering to medium- and large-format cameras, you might find some tips there...

All of my experience with medium format has been with Hasselblads and Mamiyas... I highly recommend Hasselblad, I find those machines very user-friendly, the dimensions of the image is really appealing, and I'm usually quite happy with the results...

Mamiyas are fairly similar, but a tad bit less user friendly, and the image dimensions are a bit less appealing to me.

I need to get a new camera, and I think I may just wait a while til I can afford to buy my own Hasselblad, or maybe even a 4x5 view camera... I'd prefer to have a larger negative, and everything I shoot is crafted and posed, so I don't mind having something that require a bit of set-up...

flux how very impressive.
and hasselbladdy expensive.
before words took over i used to use a mamiya twin lens - whats the size shift you mean? aren't all twins 2 1/4" square?
have also used a 5/4 - really fantastic
though i tended always to be in it for the composition/lighting/conceptual side rather than techny stuff,
that said Rothkoid - have you sorted out your parallax effect?
