Help me out here?

Okay, so I'm doing this sound-and-image thing for school, right? It's going to consist of 3-D animated sigils and synthesised mantras, which will be punted up onto a website. For this I need a text-to-voice programme, either cheap or (preferably)free, which will let me save the sound files thus produced.

Unrelated to my website project, but still sort of important: I would like to find a server, again either cheap or free, on which I can host images. I know I can upload images onto my Geocities site, but I can't link to those images- I can't put an image on my site and then post it here or onto my blog, for example.

Can anyone help me with either of these?

Well, I use the free hosting service at portland.co.uk / port5.com, and they seem to be OK with my hosting images and pulling them through onto other sites... let me check (I'll pull this off if it does work)

Edited to remove unnecessary mugshot, URL for reference porpoises.

Yep, that seems to work ok. You get a reasonable amount of space - I've got nearly two years' worth of sporadic blog on there...

Yeah, it is (the only one I could remember the URL for off-hand). It is a good one, though. Black-and-white passport pics are your friend.

I don't know the sound quality/comprehensability of the speech files you want but would
quote:
SayIt 2.03
Computer speech synthesizer that produces output similar to the classic Speak & Spell. The program outputs 44.1 kHz, 16-bit, mono wave files and can handle phrases up to 500 characters long.

do? It's at: http://www.threechords.com/hammerhead/apps.shtml (halfway down the page, along with other nice, free sound software).

But if you want something less speak and spell-ish, i don't know offhand...

It's a nice photo. I like it. And amazingly, you are very much as I'd imagined you to be. I'd pictured your red hair to look as it does there - and brow, nose, lips. Wow.

Haus about we all give each other a big lovely huggle?

Thanks, peeps!

The voice synth is perfect for my purposes- the wierder and more speak'n'spelly, the better, really.

(BTW: I couldn't seem to access the address that Kit-Cat Club posted.)

Don't be such a smartarse, Haus. You know what I mean. The way the hair grows and curls - the shape, look. And I reckon you can tell it's probably red, even if you didn't already know. So there.

Oh, Cavatina - always nice when the mental image matches the real, innit? Glad to come up to scratch...

When it comes to text-to-voice translators, every Mac comes with this as standard - perhaps you could borrow one, or get someone to record what you want it to say. Whole range of dumb voices too...

MC: what format do you need? I've got a Mac and can make the files for you - can also encode to RealAudio iffn that's usable for you - or convert to .wav or .aiff, iffn you like.

You may already have what you want but you could do what I do, which is set up a free Yahoo group. You get 20 megs of space for files (any sort, including images) and a load more for photos. If you make the file section 'public' then anyone can see 'em. It's what I use to post images here.

Wow. I'm speechless! Thanx loads, people.

I now have both my text-to-voice gizmo and my free imagey-hosty thing, and I am a very happy little satyr indeed

I'll post a link once my proj. starts to take shape. Thanks again!

As a pure aside, some weird ass images you've got there Saveloy. Patrick Stewart's head on a teletubby will probably stay with me for days.
Who else posts images?

Heh heh, thanks. My close personal friends Warrington Minge, Rizla and his mysterious brother are all irregular users.

Btw, anyone from Barbelith who can't be bothered to set up their own group is welcome to join this one and load things up (as long as the files aren't ginormous).
