Loving the Alien

Unfortunatly aliens are subject to the ebb and flow of fashion. You can tell because they used to be green and before that they where faeries.

I'm afraid the day of the grey is over. They where fine for the 90's but now we're living on science fiction time and we need something new.

Unless of course you want to leave this to Hollywood to come up with?

Now I know this may seem an odd forum to post in but it strikes me this is a design question. I don't think we should just leave something like this to the collective imagination of the world. I think we need to come up with a hip, happening and all round groovy alien that can fulfil our needs for the 21st century.

Any ideas? I'm thinking maybe something quite high fantasy oriented to go with the pastoral vibe which Grant Morrison predicted and certainly seems to be having an effect on me.

I say...play up on the "we are the aliens deal" and sell ourselves as the strange visitors. Am kind of partial to the "take me to your dealer" tag that as floating around a year or so ago.

we are living science fiction now and as such aliens are mundane.

They have the same concerns as we do the same health problems the same bad breath and history of conary heard disease (only in there case its not so serious since they have seven other hearts if one gives out.)

Aliens are fat and thin tall and short. Some have wings others have a sort of weird blue glow around them. who cares- its what they are wearing that's important.

I'm with the Sleaze on this one - the white tunic, the blue overall or the tan jumpsuit = timeless classics.

There's a lot of blue ones about these days, and vaguely-transparent ones too [very iMac]. Oh and they also do 'normal-ish humans with golden eyes'.

Maybe they're less hi-tech. Less CGI and more... trans-hi-tech.

Style over fashion?

No sorry my heads all over the place today, someone joined a list I'm a member of and they're kinda tagline was Loving the Inner alien and I had a feeling I'd seen you say you were Australian before..

as for you new style aliens. Dressed in pure shiny black suits (with matching black ties) with red eyes are going to be the new visitors to Earth

For a new perspective on the Alien likeness,it might be worthwhile to figure out how they see us,in our states of change from one day to the next.
An alien that can undergo metabolic transmutation based on how people are percieving them might be the new paradigm. Are you afraid?-Then be prepared to see something truly horrific. What if you can control your fear? Then you might see something beautiful emerge from something really ugly. There is no real form, but there is intelligence.
We've undergone cultural standardization of the Alien meme, and its so clouded by associative meaning we've forgotten to dream other possibilities. We assume that we have experienced every scientific element, but there may be gaps in the periodic table that we can't detect.
So proud of our Hubble radio images and our detection of sodium in a nearby star system,we overlook possibly more important elements because it would take an accident of some kind to find them.
A new Alien might similary appear on the scene and be considered 'new wave',by unintentionally being a representation of our true selves uncluttered by experiential prejudice.

Every child coming into the world is part alien. So therfor the more childlike and open we are,the more prepared we are to mutate into alien forms.

I can show you what aliens look like. I looked out of my window just now and saw some, so I whipped out my digital camera and took some snaps. Here they are:

(Ignore about that last one, I was just using up the film)
