BTW, I definitely watched films like that in elementary school, jr. high, and high school, often sponsored by branches of the US government, especially in science classes.

Do people from other countries, and younger people recognize the genre? Do they still show films like that? (I still remember film strips, that were tied to a cassette recorder that would "BEEP" when the teacher needed to advance the film in the filmstrip projector. I am teh old one.)

So funny! And, horribly, so necessary. Too necessary.

I may cry. Through my trying not to laugh out loud at full volume.

betty woo, a Canadian and occasional poster here, made a brilliant Homeland Security satire in the same format. It was called "Duct and Cover."

They still use the actual filmstrips in some schools in the States.

I remember trying not to react when TAing for a class and realizing part of their anti-drug film was footage copped from Reefer Madness of all things. Or, y'know, stock footage that happened to be in both. But still, it was a bit hard not to react to.
