Jane and Louise Wilson - things like 'Stasi City' reference surveillance/CCTV at least, or recreate this type of atmosphere?

Maybe Susan Hiller, though I'm not so sure about this

Mark O' Kelly (irish contemp. artist) paints from various voyeuristic POVs, including recreating CCTV shots, have a look at this...

Russell King, Jon Wainwright and Nick Urwin did a thing at the Plough arts centre, devon, a couple of years ago involving linking films up to a CCTV setup as part of a video installation.

And have a look at the
lovebytes festival site if you hvae 't already, they focuss on stuff that uses various technologies/media, sure i've seen stuff there that uses CCTV.

what's the thesis?

Wow, thanks for that, some really great peices there.

My thesis title is "Has the use of different medias, affected the acceptability of CCTV surveillance?"

So i will be looking into how it has effected art, entertainment and lifestyles.

I also have to come up with a practile peice, ie and art instalation or something like that, so any ideas would be appreichiated. That's why the work of David Rokeby interested me, take a look:

Anyway, if you find anything of interest let me know, apprechiate any help i can get.

And thanks again for the artists info.

I meant to post this a couple of weeks back, but completely forgot, hope it's still of use...
There was this art exhibition I went to a couple of years (98?) back in dundee, i think it was called Generator, but to be honest I can't remember. But there was one exhibit, which was basically just an empty, bare room, and you went in, looked around and went, um, okay, why's there nothing hewre, and left. But then, when you reached the end of the exhibit there was this room with monitors in it, which showed the output of the CCTV cameras in that room, and the images had been edited so as to place the image of a man crouching in the corner of the room, so in the end had all this footage of people ignoring this guy. I'm tempted to say it was called 'hostage' or some such...
For all I know, the person behind this was one of the people mentioned previously. If so, apologies for wasting everybody's time...

Ann Stoddard makes interactive installations in which viewers are profiled via CCTV. These works explore how context can make viewers more aware of privacy and trust issues, less accepting of CCTV. At www.annstoddard.net, see: RANDOM SUBJECTS; Application Center, Waiting Room; Datapaint- Surveilling Utopia. My next show opens March 26th at the District of Columbia Art Center (DCAC), Washington DC. Please contact me at astoddard@net-site.com if you have questions, and to request images, a video-dvd, a press release, reviews. I hope to hear from you.
