could anyone point out any good books or web sites or anything to help me learn how to draw. specifically, how to draw in a manner conducive to comic books. i can draw ok but i would like to get better, i'm stuck in a rut creatively and need to break out. any help would be appreciated.

...honestly...the best thing to do is to sign up for a course at a local university...look for life drawing to develop some skills that lead towards figurative and comic art. On top of that, sketch as often as you can. I'll check my book sources when I get back to my home base.

To jump towards a specific expression (like comic art) is fine with a foundation, but I don't recommend using it as THE reference to learn to draw. Oftentimes, comic art is a poor excuse for figure drawing, with things like proportion, scale. perspective, and use of space being fairly poor.

How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way by Stan Lee and John Buscema is the best drawing book I've ever seen. Period. Most people tend to spend most time in the figure and head drawing chapters but the most valuable chapter for me was inking and composition.

Some of those skinny Walter Foster books are pretty good. Some of them blow. I think this is the same company that publishes small books of figure drawings from the masters. Buy a bunch of those and do copies of all of the figures, copy every single one of them until you've done about 500. Cross-reference with a good artist's anatomy book. You have just saved yourself the pain of having to communicate with a washed up community college art teacher. As for drawing from life, private artist models are available at your local dive bar or night club for the price of a few drinks.

There is a series of books on how to draw manga comics but I forget its name. These are kind of cool because they discuss zippitoning (however that's spelled).
