Troy, if you think MH was "weird for the sake of being weird" you really failed to get it. Have you read through the MH thread?

Anybody watched Andrew Bujalskis', "Funny Ha Ha"?

I turned it off after about 45 mins in, it irritated me so. The characters are completely unable to verbalise their thoughts. The word "like" is used, for every two other words that are spoken (one of the others usually being "uh").

Ok I get that this is supposed to be a representation of North American midwest life after 'Varsity.
Not knowing what you're going to do, not knowing why you can't be with whomever you want to be with, while everyone you don't like wants to get in your pants etc. etc. etc. But, why make it so boring by Jove?

I mean I use "like" quite a bit myself, but this is completely incomprehensible.

And plot? I suppose that would be expecting too much.

Granted, I probably missed a lot since I turned this off, but really, the director's gotta know this shit is jive.

Do USers really talk like this?

What did I miss?

Why do so many critics rate this film. Some calling it "beautiful"?

How is this director the saviour of American indie?

"After seeing Barton Fink, I was all like, "who killed the girl?'"

I laughed for like a minute after I read that. I've seen that movie on three different occasions, and I've seen parts of it numerous times, and I STILL don't really get who killed the girl. That movie was screwed up. I'd put it in the "Didn't understand it one bit, but still really enjoyed it" catagory.

Death Proof was barely a movie. It was a collection of scenes that might have been in a movie.

I thought "A Clockwork Orange" was saying that it's a lot better to be a bad person and sincere then it is to be a good person because you have to.

I didn't get the Prestige. Not in a plot sense, but... part of me really wanted to like the movie, and the acting was good, and the writing wasn't bad. It's almost like the movie was somehow less than the sum of it's parts. Plus, about a third of the way though the movie, the twist was obvious. I sort of wish they would make a Nikola Tesla movie starring Bowie, as well.

I never got what the big deal about Edward Scissorhands was. Mind you, I have not seen this movie in like five years... but I am very meh about it. And all of Burton's stuff.

I didn't "get" Reality Bites. Not that I didn't understand it, I spose, but I don't hold it as quite the talisman as some of my friends do. It seemed to be a film predicated on richkid whining - but I guess that's a whole genre unto itself. But yeah, I thought the whole thing was an exercise in coolquotery rather than any deep meaning.

I feel the same way about Singles.

The meaning behind Clockwork Orange was pretty much nailed a few posts up.

Also, the Prestige: so terribly edited for at least the first half of the movie. Seemed as if the movie had to be cut down to fit a time frame. I really truly think the editing was to blame for any feelings of "less than the sum of its parts". The movie's whole sense of timing and pacing was thrown off by the editing style. Still enjoyed it though.

As for a confusing doozy: Primer. I always hoped there would be a movie about time-travel that handled the subject somewhat realistically, but I didn't realize I'd have to watch it three times in a row!!!

Hmmm, and as for a movie that is highly regarded yet unappreciated by myself... I'd really have to say Mephisto. I have severe editing problems with this film, and the whole point of the film is apparent in the first 5 minutes. The only thing I found interesting was the Faust analogy. Great acting in the film, but just didn't live up to the recommendation.

lean on Revolver.

What was all that about?

The eternal battle of good and evil, the struggle, as laid out in Khabbala, of darkness and light, a metaphor for man's place in his universe - done in mockney voice over.
