PC Martial Arts Game?

I don't know if this has been touched upon before, but does anyone know of a PC Martial Arts game? It seems like consoles have the Street Fighters and the Tekken crowd pretty wrapped up. But I noticed that PC have almost no video games dedicated to head-to-head competition.

Sorry G, but as far as I know there's never been a PC-native martial arts game, only a few ports of console games like the aforementioned Tekken series and Virtua Fighter, though these have dried up as graphics technologies have become more complex. No roughhousing simulation has ever done well on the PC, so developers haven't even touched the genre.

By the way, and not to sound snarky to a new member, buthere's a 'I would like a game like...' thread. Though, this said, the last time momma Phex's blue eyed boy posted to it there was no reply. C'est la vie.

There was a game years ago, a robots fighting game where the opponent (AI) actualy leart as it fought and got harder to beat, which back then was like WOW. Cant remember the name of it and searching hasnt helped.

FX Fighter is the only one I can remember off the top of my head. It's probably not anything that you're going to want to play today, mind.

Ah, here's one that isn't ancient: Rag-doll Kung Fu, the first fully independent game to be released on Valve software's Steam program (which has made it so easy to get games that I have completely eliminated the need to go outdoors!)
Unfortunately it's a bit crap, virtually uncontrollable, and the, ahem, 'humor' tends towards 'me so solly! flied lice!'. The main conceit is that you move your fighter around like a puppet by manipulating its limbs with the mouse. This does not work. Probably one to avoid.

Toribash is a turn based fighting game where you manipulate the joints and muscles of an avatar which looks like a wooden dummy.

Depending on the match each turn is 5-20 seconds (or was when I played the beta) of flexing, extending, and often falling over. The ragdoll physics are far better then Ragdoll Kungfu.

Also, the ability to rip someones arm off and hit them with it, that rules.

Thanks for your thoughts. I've always wondered why no one seemed to develop a PC martial arts game. Is it because Martial Arts Games usually have some sort of "head to head" competition? Is it because PC Games tend to be modded and people are afraid that a Martial Arts IP could easily been changed into something else?

I wish there was a game where you could become a martial artist, similar to WoWC, where you could become the "best of the best" ala Karate Kid style competitions.

Edited: I found Martial Heroes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martial_Heroes) which allows you to become a fighter, a monk, an assassin, etc...in the vein of The House of Flying Daggers. The whole thing is an MMOG and it's free from the Martial heroes company. It isn't quite what I was looking for, but it's a good start for a fighting game.

I always thought it was because fighting games tend to lend themselfs better to the console controlers, ever played a port of Street Fighter 2 using your computers keyboard? Waiste of time.

Yeah, playing Street Fighter without six, big kiddy-sized buttons to mash is a bit shit.

That said, gaz, have you tried MUGEN? It's a custom fighting game engine that allows you to port any custom character in for a bit of two-fists. As long as someone's designed them, of course.

Pretty good. Chuck "Mugen" into YouTube and you'll find Homer Simpson trampling through the cast of King of Fighters or Ryu kicking the shit out of Duck Hunt as examples of what the engine can do.
