We3 - The Movie

Film Ick has a detailed review of Grant Morrison's self-adapted screenplay for We3, and the word is good.

Still, there's plenty of time yet for all the other cooks to fuck it up, right? Or have Sin City and 300 proven that sticking true to the source material leads to big box office?

OMIGAWD. Really?

I'm going to cry like I did during Plague Dogsbut in the theater.

OMGWTFBBQetc.

Fuck. Fuckity fuckity fuck. This could be totally fucking sweet, like the sweetest thing ever.

If it's as good as it should be I might actually die from joy.

Is the critic a guy we should trust? This is important, I feel.

as long as they keep the FQ design of the shells, I'll be happy. oh, and if they do the extreme close up of the bullets leaving the first victim's body. That too, please.

I think stylistic touches that mimic the comic aren't necessarily the way to go.

I'm not sure this film is even happening.

It's attention to the cinematography and the design that's really important, here - that and not deviating from what's a very clean, linear, simple story. Whole thing is pretty much a movie pitch anyway, so it should go ok, if the studio don't decide 'hey, let's make the rabbit a... Ninja Turtle!"

Stoatie, can I see it with you so we can leap about and cry in our popcorn?

15:05 / 10.04.07
You know they'll cast Keanu as the dog and Uma Thurman as the cat though, and maybe Danny Devito as comedy rabbit sidekick. Comics-to-movie adaption is a problematic field at the moment.

Quantum Bumblebee:its an unfortunate possiblity, but other than that and the few issues with story and armour already mentioned above, this movie could be seriously fucking amazing.

In a perfect world they'd give this to Gainax.

>>>I'm not sure this film is even happening.<<<

Well, the facts are that New Line acquired the property and hired Grant to write the screenplay, which was reported in legit sources (such as Variety). The screenplay is now apparently finished. It's a long way from actually being on cinema screens and obviously a million things could happen to fuck it up along the way, but it's definitely in development.

XK- of course. You bring the popcorn, I'll bring the tissues.

And I think the environment is more conducive to something like this being filmed. It's action-heavy, it's actor-thin... what's a suit not to love?

Spaniel
18:03 / 10.04.07
Cam, I know it's in development, dude, I'm just not holding out much hope that it's gonna get much further and even if it does I don't expect to see Grant's script appear unsullied on the screen.

I really don't want to get my hopes up, so being the downer guy is probably the most sensible strategy.

For some reason, I have an image of this being rotascaped like A Scanner Darkly; for this I blame upthread mention of The Reevester, but apart from that, might it work if it were a little less deliberately messy?

But I sure hope GM will do good for himself on this.

if only they made it as a CGI based in FQ's panels...

anyway, between this and AREA 51 it's good to see G-Moz setting his foot in Holywood.

How is it physically possible to post in a thread without seeing the top post? Just asking for future reference, I can't be doing with this all 'read the entire thing' nonsense.

Evil Scientist

If we're talking a Sin City-esque shot-for-shot remake, which is easily doable, then I would hope that the violence isn't toned down. It's an essential part of the story in my view, to underline the trauma done to the animals and that, even though they are obviously the victims they have been made so thoroughly dangerous.

My excitement is showing through my trousers about a We3 movie though.

Ack. And here I clicked on that most recent link thinking it was the 2nd predicted part of that review.

Foiled again!

I agree. We need the violence. It's about time those lesser animals started standing up to their human oppressors.

You know, plus explosions and that.

It's gonna be Badass. You know, if shit doesn't get fucked up. And that fucked up shit is whaat makes this such a badass property. So they better get the shit right, and not fuck it up.

(Its my last day of college for the semester, and I just had a test, so I'm CelebraVenting).

Are there a lot of spoilers in that review up there if we've already ready the series? I didn't want my virgin mind to be tainted with never-before-seen awesomeness.

If this stuff is successful, I could very much see it lead to him as a director.

It's weird for me to think of Morrison as just a comic book artist, but the people in Hollywood probably do. Think of the Frank Miller example. Didn't Robert Rodriguez quit the DGA so he could get co-director credit on Sin City? Didn't that make mad cash?

Anyway, the precedent has been set.

And even though I feel like The Invisibles is basically in a class by itself, beyond just the medium of comic books, it's hard to imagine it represented any other way. Still, if Morrison gets that creative control, and say makes three 3-hour movies for each of the volumes... Well I guess I'd go and see them.

Here's hoping that We3 & Area 51 make money. Combine that with his Matrix stock and well... who knows?

Only twenty seven hours of screen time?

And you call yourself a fan?

People like you ought to be ashamed of themselves.

No! I already promised my cat that it possibly could be casted as the cat in the We3 movie.

What a shame! Looks like the guy who wrote National Treasure is going to be the one who does the screenplay for this one as well. That sucks.

And besides: Ge-Force is a very stupid name for a movie.
