totally rad preview.

Well, kinda rad. I hadn't heard of Vasilis Lolos before this series, but I'm liking his dirty, angular style. After reading the fourth issue in the shop I certainly felt dirty. Rick Spears I've heard of, but have seen none of his work.

Anyway, like newsarama says: gangs, riotus teenagers, violence, and Coney Island. Anyone seen this? Should I bother to find the second and third issues?

I like the look of the art, and if it's as interesting a story as Teenagers From Mars I'll definately look at picking it up in trade.

Bought the second issue on a whim and I'm totally loving the art. So much so that I went and googled Lolos, and surprise surprise I'm liking a lot of the stuff on his website.

Anyway, second issue actually has the titular pirates in it, a fun bunch that cruise around in a big black van (that has "three fucking gears of reverse!"). Would like to get issue three but can't find it.

This looks fucking wicked! How long has this been running for AND WHY DIDN'T BARBELITH TELL ME SOONER

Does this have a trade yet?

From the preview this look like my first perfect nonspandexfight comic. For anyone who's read both does this strike anyone as similar to Dave Gibbon's The Originals? Not that I'm saying comics dealing with gang, street and urban life are all the same thing.

BTW, anyone who hasn't done so owes it to themselves to read the preview. Don't and I cut you.

Yes. For god's sake it's free, it's right there, it's the whole first issue I think.

As to how long it's been out, I think it's up to issue four now, titled "Cherries of Coney Island", and details the, ah, "rumble" I guess you call it. If you grew up reading the Outsiders like me. I might go pick it up today. Third issue is nowhere to be found, unfortunately.

I managed to find Pirates #4 and #5 in Forbidden Planet a few days ago.

One-word impressions that combine, Devastator-style, into a sentence: awesome, kinetic, funny, day-glo, Warriors.

Chkk chkk chak chk!

Seriously, it's fast-paced, wicked stuff. It has a surreal sense of humour in places and references everything from vampire mythology to Ichi the Killer while being a comic about punk-ass kids.

Without spoiling much; not quite sure about the developing relationship between the Pirates and the Cherries (it all seems to be going a little too smoothly, as much as a gang war is smooth) but I'm sure the pay-off is going to be a mile away from the set-up.

You should all be reading this.
