This is kind of related, but forgive me if its not. I just got back from a trip to NYC about less than a week ago, and i fell in love with it. I live in tampa, FL, and the sheer mass of the city first through me, but then the architecture dead. The massive facade dedicated to Hermes, Zeus, and Hera on top of Grand Central station blew my mind. Seeing 20 foot tall depictions of Atlas and Prometheus in Rockerfellar center was breathtaking. I went out to Coney Island one day, and there was this one building on the Coney Island boardwalk, dating back to its heyday, covered with graven images of Neptune and mermaids. The papyrus of Ani in the egyptian wing of the MET entraced me for hours.
The trip was really cool and particularly relevant to my practice at the moment. I'm 8 monthes into working Liber $ by Crowley into my worldview, and the classical correltations fit perfectly. I never made it to the Temple of Sacred Images like I wanted to but the city seemed to shine with magical figures for me. |
