Also, the show would be better without Tyra Banks.
Dude, you have taken a crazy pill and your writing's crazy, the show is Tyra Banks. But I would like to hear why you think so.
ANTM is in my opinion the best reality series ever, and I know the previous cycles like the back of my hand. I'm watching cycle 7 on TV concurrently with 8 on youtube, which is a sign of the wonder of the information age, and while there may be the ocassional embarassing Tyra Banks moment, I like her just fine. The nadir being her Divaesque moment in 7 ep 3; whoever told her it was a good idea should be sacked! But as a recent ANTM retrospective special from, I think, E demonstrated, she's the engine of it all and I couldn't imagine the show being any good without her. She's perceptive when it comes to the model contestants because basically the show is about revealing who the contestants are against the backdrop of the highly pressurized and slightly bizarre fashion world, and through their interactions with each other and with the panel of judges. These girls, thrown regularly into impossible situations, cannot help but share a bit of their soul, even sometimes when they don't want to show it. I imagine it being a lot tougher to perceive correctly within the world of the show, so I don't necessarily envy her job. Compare and contrast with, say, Heidi Klum of Project Runway who I think is just terrible; she doesn't come off as admirably as Tyra, largely (and one could say ironically) because she doesn't know how to show herself off in the best light; also, she just doesn't seem to both perceive and think at the same rate as Tyra, that's why there are so many superflous and excruciating moments when she presents and judges. I hate reality shows that milk moments just for the sake of milking moments, something that never happens with ANTM.
Re: Renee, I don't think she's just incredibly insecure because I would hate to think that only insecurity breeds such strong negative impulses; in the latest episode, she tried at first to convince Brittany, who was physically sick, to not participate in the contest, possibly so that she could advance to the next week, and then spend the remainder of the time before judging trying to assassiinate Brittany's character by castinig doubts if she was really sick, saying offhandedly how much she hates her and throwing steely glances at Brittany's direction. When Brittany didn't face all of it lying down, they were one wrong bark away from a physical fight! And all those little smiles during judging!
It will be interesting to see if the next episode title, The Girl Who Changes Her Attitude, refers to Renee. |
