An informal London farewell drink

As some of you may already know, I'm going travelling at the end of this month and to mark the occasion I'm having a drink at the Princess Louise in Holborn this Friday, March 16, from 5pm onwards.

I realise many of you will be gearing up for the Morning Bride gig this Saturday and I'll be going to that as well, but if you fancy anything from a quick half to a session I'd love to see you. Don't think of this as a drink-up for me - just think of it as a drink-up. I'm havin' my hair done special!

Full details (and a plug for the Morning Bride gig) can be found on my blog. I realise it's late/short notice but my organisational skills appear to have departed even before I have.

Our Lady, I hope that old man thing works out well. I'm sorry I'll miss you, but I'll carry your good wishes with me and I thank you VERY HEARTILY for them. On my return, I'm sure.

Um I think you might need to find a new venue - The Princess Louise is currently being refurbished...

Bugger bugger bugger - but thanks for letting me know. I've been meeting people there for more than ten bloody years and it would be closed *now*, wouldn't it.

Okay, I'm going to have to think of another venue - might hit the Q&A thread. Any suggestions would be really, really appreciated.

WEll, any pub on a friday night will be packed but nearby sam smiths pubs include

The Citee of Yorke - on Holborn near chancery lane tube - quite busy but usually empties out earlier and the cellar bar there is usually fairly navigable.

The Crown - new oxford street - a fairly small pub - with an upstairs section and beer pavement.

The Blueposts - on newman street - winner of the title, least worst pub called the blue posts, on newman street 4 years running. It is reasonably spacious, but everywhere is busy on a friday

Thanks for your suggestions - I love the Citte of Yorke (or whatever olde worlde spelling they go with) but I find it a bit rubbish for meeting up with people. The little snugs are great if there are just a couple of you but otherwise it ends up being a scrum with besuited city types for floor space, particularly as you know on a Friday evening.

However, the new venue will be The Angel, St Giles High Street. Same bat time, etc. (Thanks Django!)

Sorry to anyone who is interested in coming for the confusion.

Ah, just heard from Anna that the PL was closed, and came here to tell you, but you know already. I prefer the Angel anyway.

I should probably be ashamed that I'm the most prolific poster in my own gathering thread, but I choose to believe that (now that Stoatie's mentioned her, nudge, nudge) the likes of Anna, Nina, Flyboy, Haus, Kit Kat, Django, Lily et al might just reach Friday and find that as it's at the top of the Gathering and they're at a loose end, it's an appealing option.

Life is full of 'you just never know'...

Sorry TT, I don't actually leave my block on Friday nights. It's a local law lest I not be able to perform the stoke newington beautification processes required here on Saturday mornings. I will of course be seeing you previous and hope all who see you post my round will gush with compliments towards your own lovely self. I reckon you should get a mention on Saturday night as well. Where I will be, in a frenzy of organizational adaptations of nonsense.

Well, what with Stoatie having texted me to tell me about it, and what with having missed Guy's leaving-do last Friday (initially due to my being double-booked but actually due to my almost passing out in Sainsbury's), I felt like I had to make the effort and catch up with peeps. Espesh as I probably won't get to the MB gig on Saturday, due to already being booked. And Friday has the added benefit of being a cheap pub, which is good 'cos my social life has been hectic lately!

Yay Anna! Stoatie's post had led me to believe you might come along, but I'd dared not believe. It's a fucking age since I saw you last. Looking forward.

DO IT. About to walk Sheena, then I'll be heading down there. Not too sure how long I'll be able to stay, but be there I shall.

Ah, was fun. Nice to see Eggs, and Gypsy, and Anna, and Vincennes, and Paleface, and Fly, and... why the fuck weren't YOU there, you fuckers?

I'm a bit drunk now, though, it has to be said. And I left early for dogwalking reasons.

Sorry I failed to get down there at all - I was in another pub at a work thing.

Soz I left early, was knackered and needed to eat something that didn't involve chips. Have a great trip!
