I always lie.

Although after talking with my friend about that, the above sentance isn't actually a paradox. It could be the case that I sometimes lie. The above sentace, for example, would be one of those times. But sometimes I tell the truth. So I am lying about always lying, so it's not really a paradox, because sometimes I tell the truth, just not then.

But that's cutting out of a paradox by tiny degrees, and is no fun.

It's not a mathematical, logical or scientific statement and so by it's own criterion is meaningless. Self defeating like 'All Cretans are liars' if you're from Crete.

But Quants - it is a logical statement - at least from what I can remember from my first order symbolic logic classes. You could easily rewrite this into a logical statement with connectors, operators and variables.

What if the then-Home Secretary of Crete or what-have-you had had a big malarkey about "what makes one Cretan"?

Then you could be FROM Crete, but not consider yourself Cretan, and possibly be lying about it. Maybe you were actually 100% Cretan, but had failed the Cretan-ness test.
