I'm giving up liquor for Lent. I'm on this weight-loss plan that suggests not drinking alchohol for the first four weeks (it does something to the metabolism, apparently).
Since I'm crap at sticking to diets, but have a pretty good track record with previous Lenten sacrifices (though I do tend to cave a little in the final stretch) I'll be killing two birds with one stone this year.
I always thought the point of Lent was for prayer and fasting, hence the "giving up" of stuff, so I'd have thought the giving up of stuff one enjoys rather than stuff that's harmful would fit the bill perfectly. It's a religious observance, not a health drive.
Mind you, I ain't giving up shit this year, so what do I know?
